    Dietitian and Magic Potion

    G'day All,

With the sedentary lifestyle provoking PhD behind me I considered it was time to get off my backside and concentrate on getting my health back on track. So off to the doctor and I received a referral to a dietician I went. Now the Dietician has a Masters in the field from a very reputable Queensland university - unlike the one I went to - tee-hee! Anyway, next thing I am told that I should try a product and stay on it for at least three months. The said product is known ASEA Redox. A month's supply of four 960 ml bottles in just over $230. I was then sent a text message last night saying the dietician was at a product launch and there was a special offer I could join and become a member. It was a time restricted - exclusive offer.

Well my Amway and this funny triangle cube shaped market scheme bells are ringing.

Is anyone taking the ASEA Redox and is it more than the latest version of snake-oil? Plus Amway under a new product guise.

I have written to the Australian professional association of dieticians to see if they condone the use of said potion.

I also found the product for sale on eBay and Amazon without any subscription of 'business' opportunities. I readily admit that I am 99.9 percent leaning toward the 'snake-oil - Amway' angle and will be seeking out a new dietician. However, just out of interest has anyone used the product and obtained more than just a lighter wallet?

No - I am not interested in a wonderful new enterprise that I can get in on from the ground floor.

What some 'magic beans' ... where can I get some from?....

    Kind regards
    Lionel

    Hello Michael and Tins,

Just have to wonder how someone with a Masters can be sucked into such a scheme? But then again a work colleague said that any male with a degree is a know it all. Hmmm... let me see ... what is my current degree count...

    Kind regards

OK 'know it all' (well, your words), what is your current degree count and what fields of study ? Obviously not a degree in Nutrition yet but there's a thought. Might as well be the Master of your health eh?

I don't have the patience to waddle through a bunch of filler material to glean a bit of real knowledge but wish I did have.

    G'day John,

I suppose it is similar to getting a plumber to work on your house. You expect that since they are a tradesperson that the job would be done professionally and competently. Not being sold a magic drain cleaner that becomes a new possible business opportunity. Plus, the referral was made by a doctor to this particular dietician over other alternatives in town. I went to a health professional due to concerns about my own health. Instead I wound up with a snake-oil pusher. One thing I have learnt though - the more you learn, the more there is to learn. It is also about becoming aware of your own shortfalls and seeking professional assistance to get you back on the right track. Where I wound up was not where I expected.

    Kind regards
    Lionel

Asea is a con. I know someone who learned that expensive lesson, over a two year period. It may have been learnt quicker if I didn't keep telling them it was a rip off.
IIRC, it is tied up with a Yank, religious outfit. (Say no more.)

Might I suggest that you let the referring GP know about this dietician’s side hustle.
    I’d bet he is unaware.

    Hello Ian,

They have done their research though Ian. Without chewing up heaps of space - there are a significant number of peer-reviewed academic publications about research that links Autism with dysfunction in redox. Where, according to good ole Encyclopaedia Britannica Redox is the oxidation-reduction reaction, also called redox reaction, any chemical reaction in which the oxidation number of a participating chemical species changes. The term covers a large and diverse body of processes (accessed 6th March 2023 from, Oxidation-reduction reaction | Definition, Examples, & Facts | Britannica). The company claims that their product restores the Redox imbalance that is mentioned within Autism journals. Ergo, there is little point doing this traditional therapy - diets and portion control until the Redox balance mentioned in the academic research is addressed. Here buy this magic potion. Oh - you too can join this wonderful business.

No doubt a significant amount of chronic illness could be linked back to some fault in the metabolic processes based around Redox. Accordingly, there would be a ready reserve of peer reviewed research publications that cite Redox or other metabolic processes that the company could tap into and put their spin on. So, you have to take your hat off to them about knowing where to set their pitch - damn good marketing. Did I mention that I studied horticulture and according to these examples of peer-reviewed journal articles from distinguished journals, beans are very healthy due to all their abundant nutrients. I am also very confident that there is something magical about some beans I have... would you be interested in some? Tee-hee! Oh and check out the first part of my name. I will conveniently not detail the Doctor of Philosophy part of the Dr. You can trust me!

    Kind regards
    Dr. Lionel
