I'm in a similar situation and have been looking for a while.

Subarus are hit and miss with the head gasket problem. Expensive and a pain to fix.

I've seen quite a few of the older Hyundais with engine problems while you hardly see any Toyotas.

Maybe look for an Avalon, a bit more comfort than the Camry.

Subaru are not quite in the reliable, appliance niche, more high maintenance enthusiasts' category.

Dunno.. there were "rumours" of hail damaged cars being repaired. Cars that were in the holding yards near the docks here in Melb. Only rumours, though.

Hmm. Subaru always seem to do well in those customer satisfaction surveys.

There are a couple of the "Camry in a Hugo Boss" models that fit as well, Gav. Perhaps the Lexus tax might be worth paying. Or looking, at least.

I'd probably go look at this one. low'ish milage, proper gearbox, cheap enough.... Its not a megane 225 ... but hey, you can't have everything :)

Its not a huge loss if you decide you hate it .... but renaults usually are fantastic (comfy) highway cruisers, so you may struggle to get your wife back into something like a camry after it.

I should take one for a drive - it's for my Daughter and while she can drive a manual, based on the driving she does, an Auto would be more suitable - what are the Renault slush boxes like as far as reliability goes - and these vehicles in general - being a Pom, French cars aren't high on my list... [bigwhistle]
