We have 2009 Liberty, 09 was a changeover year, ours is the last of the old ones.

It's at 288,000km and is using a significant amount of oil, and is quite rattly in 2nd gear.

It had a clutch and reco transfer case (failed viscous coupling) at 205,000km

It throws a cat converter fault from time to time, replace with genuine seems to be the only real fix at $4k. I just clear it, and it's fine for weeks to months.

We have owned it since new, and it's been serviced by the book.

It's done mostly hwy Ks

As much as I like it as car, I wouldn't look at a second hand one,

Yep bullet proof. Fantastic build quality. We had the last of them and it did 220,000 without 1 issue and was written off with bad hail damage. It had excellent suspension and a solid feel to everything that I haven't felt in other cars since. Only issue was it liked to chop out tyres owing to the camber front and rear and tyre pressure changes didn't help....but she handled. Double wishbone front and rear. The last of the Honda where they did apply their F1 knowledge to a road car. Not as quick as our 2.5 Mazda 3 GT but still quick enough. Cheers

Had a Rover 600 version of the Accord in the late nineties. Ran it up to 80k miles in 2 years and it never gave any problems. Comfortable for longer drives. Good vision from drivers seat. Huge boot. 2 litre engine was adequate even with 4 adults on board

That's funny.... I was thinking it would be a great car for a younger women.... After all, when else in there life can they have something like this ( certainly not if they have family/kids ).

Seriously though, being a removable hardtop. I imagine the boot his huge to fit that roof into ... so its probably quite functional (and water/wind tight) for a young person without a family.

I prefer this car to the picasso as its a simple petrol motor and manual gearbox. The only reason I suggested the picasso is its the right "age" if that makes sense. Make it a few year younger and you get into addblue additive. And that **** seems to cause endless issues across all manufacturers (crystalising in the tank, faulty pumps, faulty tanks, faulty bloody everything). The bills to fix that system is in the thousands. Fortunately it seem we now have companies in australia that can disable it and remove it (though its probably not legal [bigwhistle] ).

Well I’m going to take a 2 litre petrol Megane manual for a spin this weekend. There are quite a few out there with around 100 to 150KKM on them that seem in reasonable condition and aren’t expensive - I need to find out why they appear to be reasonable value - I’m doing some research but nothing is slapping me in the face as to them being lemons but I will be treading very carefully as they are not a vehicle I’m at all familiar with.

Nice car, my sister owns one .... I looked at them quite a bit when lookiing for cars for my wife. Just don't get one with a 4spd auto :)

renault usually have excellent seats and great ride quality (if its not a performance oriented one)

Girlfriend had a Clio, which she loved until a tree claimed it.. I asked what type was it. She said "white". Hope that helps.

We had two Renault 16TS in the family -great cars in their day.

My other sister has a little 3cylinder turbo clio she's owned since new.... The other sister has a megane wagon. A few years ago a work colleague asked me if renault meganes were ok... I said "well ask anyone and they'll say they are unreliable french ****...... but renault makes about 1.5million cars a year .... So they can't be too unreliable". He loves the thing even quite a few years later.

I don't really see them being more/less unreliable than any other car out there. There's a photo around of my grandfathers house when my father was younger. There's a big line of Renault 10's, Renault 8's and a R16 out the front. My grandparents, father and all my aunts/uncles had renaults.

you could say we have owned french cars "for a while".
