I've been watching all this bloke's videos.

Lionel, I've just been chatting to an old mate of mine, who was a diesel mechanic for one of the beef road contractors up North, years ago.
He said a mixture of diesel and molasses mixed in a billycan to the consistency of Castor Oil, poured into the injector holes, covered and left for a week, could do the trick.
After the seven days, try to turn the motor, even a smidgen and once you get a little bit of movement, it should free up a lot easier.

You'd think that was setup if you didn't see him unsticking it. The pony motor sounds like a fresh rebuild and doesn't even blow smoke (2stroke aren't they ? there should be smoke) and the diesel engine ran smooth and smoke free seconds after it fired.

yes I noted how clean the exhaust was, every time I start a new rebuild the shed fills with smoke from assembly oil.

Hello Saitch,

Well tomorrow - Saturday, will mark a week after my mix of 50/50 diesel and lanolin penetrant was poured down the injector holes into the bores. Last weekend I did get the motor unseized by pulling and pushing on a metre long steel flat bar bolted to two flywheel holes. However, it is still too tight for the starter motor to fully rotate the flywheel. It shifts about 3 cm and stops each time I crank the starter motor for a short period of time. It is a brand new starter motor so I do not want to damage it.

If the 7 day soak has not improved the ability of the engine to rotate very much I will go and support the local economy here and buy some molasses. I could cross the road and harvest my own raw materials. However, I will let that opportunity pass me by.

If the diesel/lanolin and the diesel/molasses mix does not work I will become more technologically advanced and try the Evapo-Rust option. After that it will be the head off option which is a step that I am loath to take. Fingers crossed for tomorrow!

Why not remove the head and determine where it is seized? It could be on the crank, big end or main bearing(s) or on the bore(s), or any combination. If it is the crank, no matter how much magic potion you tip into the injector holes, it won't alleviate the seizure.

I tend to agree with Ian at this point. However, if you want to try molasses a stock feed mob is the best place to get it.

Thank you for the reply Tins. I have previously bought molasses - indeed as you note, from one of the local stock feed mobs. I have bought it previously from the local stock feed supplier when I was doing molasses baths for de-rusting parts. I just have none left at the moment. When I was still in high school I used to strap trotters in Temora during school holidays. Mixing up the afternoon feed with generous dollops of molasses mixed in by hand. So, it is a smell that triggers good memories. Well until you lift the lid on a molasses bath after it has stewed for weeks that is!
