Exactly the way it should be done but then as far as the cops here in WA are concerned, and all those so called 'road safety experts', exceeding the posted limit by even the smallest amount for any reason is dangerous.

And in Qld,going 40Km/hr over is 8 points,and $1780 fine.One of my brothers got one recently doing just that,overtaking another vehicle.

It doesn't take much in vehicles these days to get up to those sorts of speeds.
But i agree,minimise time on the other side of the road while overtaking.

Yeah, well we all know that speed kills, but the road train coming the other way doesn't.

Should be even attempting overtaking if anything is coming let alone a road train. That's the reason I never take notice of all clear signals from trucks etc., I make my own mind up whether it's safe or not.
I had to drop well back some years back when a woman with kids aboard was overtaking a truck so slowly as she made sure she didn't exceed the limit.
I was really scared something would come the other way.
Luckily she got away with it.

A long time ago in another world......
Driving a Mini from Sydney to Melbourne overnight with 4 in the car, behind a semi.
Long straight road, up hill, dotted single line.
Move to the right to check for on coming traffic - all clear!
Go for it.
At about the rear of the truck cab, a pair of truck lights pull out from the left and turn right not very far ahead of us.
Braking would still leave us in the path of a truck.
Accelerating would be a quicker death.
Hit the RH indicator and hugged the gravel on the right hand side scared of hitting a ditch/pole/rock etc as the on coming truck squeezed between us.
Three passengers slept through their near death experience none the wiser!

Even more dangerous than spray from truck tyres, is rocks or bricks stuck between the dual tyres being flung out!

What they should remember is that the slogan Speeds Kills is a shortened version for marketing purposes. The full statement it is derived from is inappropriate speed for the circumstances kills.

That speed kills was medical opinion that was considered fact at the time of Stephensons Rocket train when they said all who traveled on it would die as they would not be able to get enough air to breathe due the to speed it traveled at
