Portable Induction Hotplates - Your recommendation?

I guess I should have researched better - first it has a 15A plug requires a 15A socket - how many houses have 15 amp wiring as standard - mine certainly does not - my fault for not noticing this but I think I can work around this.

Second - I did not realise you need specialised cookware - I have aluminium frypans and these do not work as the material of pots and pans needs to be magnetised ferrous metal - my stainless steel pots also do not work.

So for the moment the induction top will stay in its box and as I need to replace cookware I will get induction compatible items.

yoyu can just put a plate of steel on the plate and get that heated up, not a great solution, butit works

Most ovens have 15A plugs.

I remember this when I had my 'new oven' installed about 23 years ago. I got gas, because I preferred cooking with gas, but plubmer tells me I need to have elec install a 15A plug. "Hang on, I got a gas oven!" The grill/toast element is electric!

Nearly all off our cooking is at <1000w

Crank it up to 1200w for searing steaks than back to 800w
Boil water at 1800w

Barstards! .. (my oven brand) .. sold me a total dud then! [bigrolf]

Now I'm in a bind with needing a new oven too. I don't like electric, but I do like the idea of induction cooktops for a lot of cooking, all my pots/pans are steel(zero Al stuff).
Only problem is the Wok burner, which I use for 90% of my cooking.

Induction(or any electric) pretty much useless compared to gas for this .. and I like my totally used and abused wok for cooking! [happycry]

Induction has its place but i'll stick to gas even if its just the wok burner on the bbq.

I have a 100amp continuous discharge Lithium so allowing for inverter loss I am probably limited to 900 to 1000 watts and I am not keen on inverter unless I can sear so probably keep to gas for now and keep the Lithium for other duties. Cheers

Hmmm, agree hotter the better for searing, we’ll not that I’m any sort of chef……

It’ll be awhile for me to do at test run at 900w, got a few nice steak [emoji3052] in the freezer as well

as also noted above most of our cooking is lower than higher settings. On the 250A BMS battery we can easily run the 2000W setting. Cast iron skillet seems to sear ok at the lower wattage but haven’t done a lot of testing yet.
