Yep. Big black clouds, rain and hail, lightning struck about 150 metres away and I've got the genny running. Hasn't cooled it down much.
Phillip Island shops might like to borrow your Genset
"Valentine’s Day.
“I was talking to a few hospitality businesses. They’re all preparing for Valentine’s Day, which is today, so their fridges will be full of oysters and those sorts of things. It’s going to be affecting ... businesses right across the whole of the shire.”"
Hundreds of thousands of Victorians remain without electricity, including entire communities on Phillip Island and its surrounds after storms smashed the state’s power network on Tuesday.
Power to hundreds of traffic lights and some train lines has still not been restored, threatening to cause chaos during Wednesday morning’s commute. And overnight, Ambulance Victoria told those unable to call triple-zero to instead drive to their nearest hospital emergency department.
Isnt the thread about heat?
Just read Brisbane city current average ground temperatures have been 75*c.
Council is concerned about reducing it and are holding an enquiry.
Ummmm , plant a few thousand trees instead of having an enquiry. Ahhh, you know ....trees make shade.
Too bloody roight! I was in the city yesterday & could feel the difference walking down the streets ( a thing I don't normally do but needs must in this case [bigsad]) & was delighted to see & feel the difference as I passed down the streets. (Not sure what trees they are but very thick foliage & COLD in their shadow . I thought I may have to retreat back to the Parking Station to get a Jacket. No Kid!
Yes, Adelaide does have Parking Problems like elsewhere in OZ The Pavements are not paved with Gold as generally mooted, but beautiful Shade. Trees do not attract Council Rates but suspect this a reason why more are not planted. "Let 'em build another Parking Station the council Members are due for a fee rise" bollocks!
Cynical? Moi?
well y'know Adelaide....typically cold in the summer months....can be stinkin' hot at easter
if I remember correctly , the whole of east terrace was trees and gardens with seats everywhere and it was nice and cool to sit there on a hot day while family went xmas shopping in Rundle Street. 60yrs ago or more, has it gone?
No, it is pretty much the same but I suspect you are thinking of North Tce as it is close to Rundle St.
You can walk from Gates of Govt.House/ Statue of a Light horseman (Breaker Morant some say) His name is not on that memorial but moves were afoot to rectify that since his name has been cleared. Then along the old stone walls of Gov.house past the State War Memorial and the old School of Mines, Libraries. Uni of SA, Museum Interesting replica of a Meteorite about 2' diam when I was a kid used to be in the front porch (???) as well as WW1 Sopwith Camel. The Old Royal Adelaide Hospital is not there any longer as a complete new one was built to the west from here. Victoria Park Race course until the motor sports needed somewhere to race. Turn South from here & then onto East Tce & some lovely olde houses & Gardens.
Thank you Ladies & Gentlemen the lady in the ticket Box can assist you if you need more information on out tours. [bigsad]All donations to the National Trust will be appreciated. Ladies, tea shoppes are close by & The Botanic Hotel would be a nice place for a beer or two & Shandies for the Ladies & Little-ese. A monetary box for your guide is over there.[bigrolf]
Well it look like we are going to get another storm like last week, I lost power until Thursday and had to clean out the freezer and throw out stuff. Not looking forward to another storm, but they say it isnt going to be quite as bad as the one last week. There is still about 1000 people with out power from last week storm. Even Mario's cat kitty(therapy cat) did like it last week. He couldn't understand why I was having tea in the dark (lol). Heather
