Interestingly, my first Citroen (1960 model) had as stock tyres 165x400 front, 145x400 rear from memory - but not in Australia, which had the same wider ones front and rear.

I am aware of insurance and I wonder how it will fare. I know that locally I have no problem. Funny thing is, being europe whereas our southerly neighbors are not allowed to alter the car and in germany you need to have the tyre size tested (it's on the car papers) it does not matter if I drive with my car through those countries and on my insurance. eu countries simply allow each others cars on the road. Same goes for importing, any car from the EU the local government MUST allow.
Now, that is not to say that I will be that lucky everywhere :) I have found though that bar extreme excesses most countries around the world don't really care, if a cop wants to bugger you, they will anyway.
Back to the topic at hand: I did increase diameter from 29" standard to 31,7" but I did modify the car accordingly (less than 50mm raise). The one thing that has changed is the width.
On a side not, importing in oz (temporary with a carnet for traveling) would it matter in which state I imported the car regarding tyre sizes etc?
