Campfire Etiquette

We are of the school that goes camping for the peace and quiet, enjoying the sounds of the bush, wildlife etc but not everyone goes camping for those reasons. Places where people go with their boats tend to be the worst; they have a different mindset and camp is somewhere to run the generator, have the stereo blasting etc. in between fishing days. Unfortunately it is not as easy to impose your peace and quiet on others as for them to impose their noise pollution on you.
In the Gregory National Park a few years ago, in one of the campgrounds at the northern end we were camped next to an older couple who started up their stereo as soon as the sun went down; they actually asked the people on the opposite side of the track if the music would bother them, didn't ask our opinion and we were half the distance away! We let them know without being asked. At the southern end of the park we didn't see another soul for six days. Much more the thing.

They have quiet carriages on trains perhaps in the same thought process they need defined noisy camping spots

That is actually a thing, at least 'generators' and 'no generators' areas, have seen this in the national park areas in the Kimberley where off-piste camping is not really possible. Some of them are not sufficiently separated.

We pulled in early to what appeared to be a nice quiet off-road spot one day and set up (put the chairs out) and sat down to enjoy the peace and quiet thinking we'd got a spot difficult for others to get close to us. 'No way Jose' as they say, this turkey sort of jack knifed his car and van and then immediately set his bloody generator up between his car and our bedroom!
Brrrrmmm off it went with a roar and up I got up and told him to move it to the back of his own van or I'd turn it off but he reckoned his wife liked watching some rubbish soap in peace and quiet..... he did move it out into the bush away from us after much moaning and did shut it off after she'd had her daily fill of crap thankfully.
Why the hell people have to park so close to others beats me. Poor souls must feel lonely. :)

Have they not heard of the internet? Or, even VCRs?? You can enjoy the p&q while you are away, and then, if you absolutely must, binge watch crap when you return home. Or, better still, simply not go.

This also applies to folk from our Northern neighbours. Some sort of deep seated ethnic agoraphobia. ( yes, I know, I am using the word in it's generic form ).

Anyway, have they not heard of solar systems?? I'll bet they have one on their roof back 'ome.

Having spent a fortune on batteries and solar for one big trip (they were not cheap then), I did not take kindly to clowns running their generator out towards our camp on 40 meters of extension cord. Clearly they do not want to listen to the things themselves- like the woman who has to watch her soaps.

Went to my first Winter Wombat some years ago.

Followed the map to the site and there were some guys set up beside the track on a rise, before reaching the Potato Patch, enjoying a few beverages next to their pooluxes.

As the afternoon wore on and the sun dropped these guys started shooting at some distant target on the other side of the Werribee River. They weren't using 22's. This went on for some time into the evening.

A couple of new (to me) acquaintances (Chris and Kyle?) went off in the dark to have a chat with the shooters.

Silence ensued. Apparently the shooters packed up and left and all was happy in LR land.

Tins, Loanrangie & Homestar would remember this.
