    Internet Company Grrrrr

My internet company, TPG, whom I have been with since I got the internet back around 2004, informed me about 6 weeks ago that they were no longer going to do ADSL as of 14/3/24(tomorrow)
and that I would have to go to NBN. This email came whilst I was on holidays so I dealt with it when I got home, giving me 2 weeks to sort this out.

Because of where I live I have to have wireless internet, even though houses 300 metres from me have fibre to the house.

So the booking was made for a tech to come around today and install it. He climbs onto the roof with his meters and he tells me that I have too many trees in the way and I can't have wireless.

So I rang TPG to see what can be done and they politely told me stiff poo, can't help. So much for 20 years of loyalty.

So after trying a few companies with no results, I tried Telstra. The salesman after checking a few things assures me, even after telling him what has just occurred with the tech, that I can have wireless.

So I am signed up with them. They said 5 to 10 working days(so 10 days). So tomorrow I have no internet for probably 10 days and I know what is going to happen.

The next tech is going to get up on the roof and tell me the same thing, trees in the way.

No wonder people tell me that I am turning into a grumpy old man.

So I will report back in the future as to the outcome, if I ever get the internet back.
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

Great if you have reception for at least 4G.

Problem I have here is having to cart around my computer and a generator to power it would get a bit tedious.

Has nobody even suggested Satellite? I realise it can be a bit iffy but at least you may have a connection

Been there done that with the "new" Digital Power Meters, only leaves weren't the problem. Be a Grumpy Bastard all you like it's your money.
    Best of luck.

We had satellite with Activ8me until fixed wireless arrived but the wireless installer really didn't want to climb on the roof as he couldn't get an acceptable signal at ground level. I eventually convinced him to get up there as the tower can be seen from there early morning when the sun is shining on the tower, skimming trees and hills along the way. We're almost at the maximim distance so quite fortunate really.

    We're still with Activ8me.

Why wouldn't you just do ADSL with another provider? I presume that TPG aren't removing your copper wires?
