I reckon that argument is good only if you are buying.
If you own a 25yr old Landie, it is 25yrs old.
If you own a 25yr old Toyo...it is only good for sardine cans by then anyway!!

Yeah but the poor bugger who bought that cruiser in the first place and spent all that money changing it would have been better buying a 25yr old landy and running is standard (still better than the modded cruiser, maybe not as quick but as good off road) and saved the money he spent doing the cruiser up to buy camping gear, fuel and beer.

You are clearly a woman of discernment. After dipping my toes in the Landie waters I'm not going back to any Japanese imitators.

My point was that we all know Toyos rust, but the solution the misguided owners use is to replace the rust with fibreglass panels. So when you buy an old one, you are often buying what amounts to a fibreglass reproduction of a Toyo, quite possibly with a lot of non-standard parts.

Who would buy a fibreglass 4wd new? So why do people buy them 2nd hand?

My other puzzle is why people say Toyotas are reliable and then pay big bucks for vehicles that contain little more than Toyo axle casings and chassis with the rest replaced with assorted bits. Even if you buy an all-original example, no 20+ year old vehicle is reliable. Again - why are people paying so much money for an obviously inferior product?

I will agree with you on the buying a toyo cause they are so reliable and then the first thing they do is go out and replace half of it. Doesnt make much sense to me. Matt
