Deer hunting is far from the only activity that the proponents seek to do away with in the proposed park. A friend is a fanatic gemstone fossicker and that too will end. You probably won't even be able to walk your dog except in the local 1/4 acre dog park with everyone else.
Petitions will of course have no effect as this is an ideological decision, the proponents are elitist academics and politicians who seek to end blue-collar pastimes in the bush and preserve the bush for it's own sake, not considering human beings to be a legitimate life form outside of the leafy suburbs. The plan includes the handing of management over to local indigenous groups which will empower persons with no experience in land management and an agenda of their own, purely on the basis of race.
On the other side, from a perusal of the facebook groups, the anti-park movement is being hijacked by activists who are linking it to their left-over uneducated and self-absorbed angst over the covid lockdowns. I just can't align myself with groups who are going to use the same rants and chants that were used to deny the reality of something that I was experiencing first hand just a short time ago.
I'm at a bit of a loss, meetings and petitions are meaningless as the decisions have already been made, the elitists will get their desires pushed through as they have the government and the media power, the opponents will be allowed to look like- and allow themselves to look like- uneducated ignorant yobbos who should be ignored. The only winners will be the weeds and the feral animals.
I would be tempted to suggest that people just continue to do what they have always done, ignoring the new signs and whatever else pops up, but that might be construed as promoting unlawful activity- which I would not wish to do.
Its a similar situation to Elephants i South Africa. Stop Hunting etc to conserve them. Now their numbers have grown so much they are eating out the National Parks and spreading into farm land etc They are so big they just knock over a complete tree to eat and laying waste to large areas.

Greenies should think through the problems to what will happen.

Having just done big trip through NSW and QLD with lots of hiking through National Parks I can assure everyone that this proposal is the last thing Victoria needs nor is it the best way forward

I see it as the reality though, that a leftist government will just go ahead and do what they have decided to do without paying any attention to those they find themselves able to label as 'right wing'.
