There was a ship called 'Asphalt Seminal' which visited the Bulk Liquids Berth on Botany. Think of all the most unfortunate ways you could pronounce that and that's how I pronounced it when I called it up. I'd spell it out for you but this is a polite forum. Well, most of the time.
    Cheers, Billy.
    Keeping it simple is complicated.

I've heard it called more colourful names than these!

Similarly Indooroopilly, people haven't said the 2nd syllable for decades, so Indroopilly and in the last few years has been shortened to Indro.

When I first moved to Qld in around '81 I stayed there for a while. But IO was trying to find the joint and not a soul knew what I was talking about. One girl looked scornfully at me and said " waddyafinkIlooklikeareferdex?" Didn't know what a referdex was either. I was used to the Melburnian sophistication and the wonderful Melway.

It's really not hard, from anywhere in New South head north, you'll soon find the gloriousness of the northernmost state of Queensland.

I'd say you were nowhere near your destination when you asked for directions as Indro and the surrounding suburbs are a rather nice part of Brisbane

I actually liked the place, but didn't stay long. Moved out to Somerset Dam. But, this was 45 years ago. Don't recognise Indro at all now.
