Cyclone Alfred

Roller doors can be the weak point in a shed/garage as they can flex and pop out of the tracks under intense wind gusts espcially domestic types as they are pretty thin material. Advice was to park a vehicle close inside with suitable padding to prevent them blowing in.
Industrial roller doors typically fitted with chains or in excess of 2.4m wide and over 3m high are typically made of thicker material and can withstand higher wind loads.

Reports of $70.00 for a slab of water. Good grief, haven't these people ever been through a blow? This is only a cat 1, how would have coped with Yasi or Larry?

I'm on the low end of the street but flood mapping I can find doesn't show flooding as such but overland flow past us to and around the park at the end of the street.

If power is out too long might take you up on the genie offer.

I'd probably leave the door of the shed closed.

TC Alfred seems to have decided to slow down, it seems. Main result of this is probably that the strong onshore winds will last longer, meaning higher swells and more coastal damage. On the other hand the delay in arrival may mean it will not arrive at high tide, so the storm surge may not be as high.

With the lack of practical information, I started thinking about wind speeds and sometimes it helps to think in reverse so to speak, therefore wind speed can be equated to driving a flat bed ute with something on the tray at the sustained 95kph gusting to 130kph as predicted.

I always think of it as a removal house being transported down the high way at that speed.

He's just slowed down to have a blow and rehydrate, JD. It appears, going by the last BOM track, that I'll have a lovely rain depression sitting on top of the place on Saturday.
