    Cyclone Alfred

To everyone (like me) who is in the vicinity of this system, stay safe, hope you have everything battened down. Once the system has passed remember, "if it's flooded, forget it".
Emergency services will have enough to do without needing to rescue people from their own stupidity.
I think we have about another 24-36 hours before things get a bit ify, so use that time wisely to secure your property.
Check on your neighbour, particularly if they are elderly, to make sure they are ok.
Forecast is for anywhere from 300-700mm of rain, even up to 1000mm. South of the centre is forecast for the worst of the rain.
Don't think I'll be going to work on Friday. Current tracking has it going right over the top of my location.

Anyway, take care of each other, check on your mates and see ya out the other side.

The lady who is normally behind the counter at the local shop/mail centre here is on a cruise with Carnival this week. Guess where?

Sydney to Moreton Id and back!

Might make a good story for the local rag?

Made an emergency drain in front of the cars' shed yesterday, using the tractor. The last huge 'Rain Event' caused mud to flow in, under the roller doors.

Now, speaking of roller doors. My machinery shed is a 5 door, with 2 sets opposite i.e. 2 bays are drive in/drive out. With the forecast breeze, would it be better to have them open, to have a flow-through situation? There's nothing in the shed that could blow away.

A heads up for local, AULRO members. I have a spare 3kva and an 8kva genny available, if needs be.

Just been on my roof and cleaned leaves out the valleys, not that there was much. I wish there was more practical information, like at what wind speed a pot plant, empty wheelie bin, etc, would take off.

    Hi,
I think wind under the roof would be worse than wind on the roof. A totally unqualified opinion of course.
    Cheers

Mate of mine is on the 'Queen Anne'. Well north now yet left from Sydney making me wonder about the sanity of some MarineTraffic: Global Ship Tracking Intelligence | AIS Marine Traffic

You can track where your local lady is via the link if you know the name of the ship.

HMAS Choules did a run though Alfred to pick up an interesting rower

    Keep safe all.

I don't reckon it would take much for a wheelie bin to migrate. Mine live at the front gate, but they will soon be keeping the D3 company in the car shed..

Looks like it may cross further South now, Ray. There's still going to be a fair old breeze and lots of rain. At least you're not in a flood area.
