My wife and I were in a cheapie yard once buying her a runaround, the salesmen all looked like rejects from Duran Duran, mullets and long coats. One of them asked what I did for a living and when I said a weather forecaster he started making smartarse comments.
My wife turned to him and said, in a very derisory tone - "What do people say when you tell them you're a car salesman?"

Mind you I think that a yard full of Arthur Daly's (cars) is great bit of Cockney.

Oh dear, I couldn't stop the salesman from constantly ringing me at work whinging and moaning about how I'd shopped his price around and he accused me of being "un-principled"!!!!!
Can you imagine that........ a b. carsalesman calling someone else un-principled!!!!
In the end I had to be a bit nasty and told him to eff off.
And then there's their so called service manager.......... I can't comment on that bloke without being done for slander or something equally horrible and expensive.
Actually they rang me this morning to see when I'm taking the thing in for it's next service.
I told the girl the truth without being rude, but it was difficult.

My wife hates going to car yards or dealers with me because I get impatient with the sales guys. Classics:
"If you engage 4WD in the Landcruiser and lock the hubs you get more grip onroad"
"Sorry. we don't have any Troopies in stock. But the RAV4 is a good 4WD too"
"This handles better than my roadcar" ['this' being an XC90. God knows what his roadcar is]
"I don't know how many gears are in the gearbox. Let's count"
And the usual never-ending stream of suck-up platitudes and comments like "very well built car" "rides beautifully".
I'm no longer allowed to ask them any questions other than pricing.
I just find it irritating I end up knowing more about their product range than they do, probably like most people here.
The first law of selling:
Know your customer first and then find a product to sell to them. If your client is a fool then you could sell them rusty rabbit traps.
Yes, but my favorite is starting up the stone cold car sitting in the yard and then revving the crap out of it to show you how good it goes.:mad:Quote:
