I'd just hit up the american forums for whatever jeep you're interested in. parts should be readily available from the US directly (I do this from UK for european car parts). I don't appreciate the electronic filled nightmaires modern cars are. If jeeps have 20year old tech, that is more the ideal to me :)
If you find a good forum (like this one is for land rovers), you should be able to figure out most common issues quite easily.
I'd go for it. To many electronics in a modern land rover for me. The modern defender for example, just appears to be a horrendously complicated range rover with a different skin.
Its quite amusing to see public figures like jeremy clarkson and harrys farm still driving around there old range rovers when they would probably be gifted a modern one if they would drive it publicly [bigrolf]
