Mick, we thought it was an RAAF jet from Amberley too, as we hear them occasionally. The rough, tough, farm dog didn't like it, I can tell you.

Side note: Is the old Booubyjan homestead still open for inspection?

Speaking of Somerset Dam, the RAAF used the lake for low flying in the F111. Those things made a row.

Dunno about that. When I lived there, mid 80s, the blokes on the dam were on a permanent siesta.

JT, in the 70s my survey crew was using the old Hazeldean State School as our camp. The first couple of times that the F111s did their low level runs, it frightened the crap out of us.

G'day Saitch, going off the signage I believe the homestead is open daily, but the signs could be outdated. I could find out for you, if you want me to.

According to the following link, the homestead is open by appointment, but the link, within, to the homestead website, does not work. Essentially, I'm of no assistance.

I have a little story about that. I was working on a Sunday on a loader in a gravel pit by myself. I had stopped and was standing on the old 920 ( no cab, no ROPS ) and I saw an F111 up high so I was staring up at it. Unbeknownst to me his mate was stalking him, down low. He probably didn't even see me but in my imagination I can see him laughing at me as he flew over at what seemed like a couple of feet off the ground. (Ok, I know it wasn't but?.)
Speaking of scaring the crap out of me, I fell off the loader. Grrrrr.
