    Bushfire

Today a fire appeared, started by lightning in yesterday's storm presumably. It is currently about 6km north of us, and the wind is westerly so no immediate issue. But the RFS is suggesting I might want to leave.

I have the County more or less packed, and I have put the 2a in the shed. I think I am right for the night, and if the wind forecast is correct, should be OK until tomorrow night. The wind is supposed to go to the north then but pretty light, unfortunately going to NNW and NW and strengthening after first light Saturday, which could be a bit nasty.

Woke up this morning everything is shrouded in smoke, but the fire (if the RFS map is to be believed) has not gone anywhere overnight, as expected.

    The hard working Volunteers!

    Take care John

Mean while in Vic today warning about bad bushfire and floods over summer made me wonder just a bit!

It can be confusing of course. So I do not over post (as I have already this morning )
    Joke here about Confusion

Three nuns die in a car crash and arrive at the Pearly Gates. St. Peter stops them and says, "Sisters, welcome. However, to enter the Kingdom of Heaven, you each must answer a single biblical question."
He turns to the first nun. "Sister Marie, who was the first man created by God?"She smiles and says, "That was Adam."Suddenly, lights flash, bells chime melodiously, and the gates open just enough for her to slip through.
St. Peter turns to the second nun. "Sister Catherine, who was the first woman created by God?"She replies confidently, "That was Eve."Again, the lights flash, the bells chime, and she is allowed to enter.
Finally, St. Peter turns to the Mother Superior. "Mother Superior, since you are the leader, your question is a bit more difficult. What was the very first thing Eve said to Adam when she touched his penis?"
The Mother Superior looks shocked. She blushes, looks down at her feet, thinks for a long time, and finally mutters to herself:
"My goodness, that's a hard one."
FLASH! DING-DONG! The gates swing wide open.

That reminds me of the time I was driving down to Melbourne on the Hume, long before the freeway.

As I approached Kilmore Gap in sunshine, on the left hand side of the road were several appliances trying to make sure the fire did not jump the highway. In retrospect, I wonder why they had not stopped traffic, although the smoke was (mostly) blowing away from the road.

Come to the crest of the divide in the gap, and it immediately started raining fairly heavily and was still raining and a dreary, miserable day when I arrived home in Kew.

Woke this morning to the sound of gentle rain rather than smoke. Unfortunately it soon stopped, and the wind picked up. Less than a quarter of a millimetre. Worse, the wind got a bit of northerly in it.

On the other hand, there has been intense aerial activity, with several helicopters and several fixed wing involved. I believe that there is a lot of ground activity as well, but not on this side of the fire, as the break was finished by dark yesterday.

The wind has now change to westerly, although still strong. This direction suits me, and there in nothing with any north in it forecast until Thursday.

So we will hope! The westerly will push it towards a lot more places, so I expect firefighting to intensify.
