I'm pretty sure they only get Freshwater crocs in Catherine Gorge, been there a number of times swam there actualy scared a few off the banks, they rent canoes at the start of the gorge, you wouldn't be able to if there were salties in there.

I've seen them further down in the Daly (the Gorge on the Katherine River BTW), infact from our campsite on the Daly spotted them at night, but not in the Gorge!


Things could have changed in the last 10 years but I'm sure they haven't.

I remember that one too. I took a line hugging the right bank as close as I could-a bit shallower-no crocs noticed on the walking! I use a tarp over the grill-not visible on the Nolans Brooke shot.

OK, here`s a couple of photos crossing a stream in North Devon just before I sold my Camel late last year. It had p1ssed down rain all the pevious night and this water was flowing bloody fast thru here. I does`nt look it in the photo, but the water was racing thru there.

Was good fun, but a bit worrying being the first vehicle to plunge on in with the speed that the water was flowing. I ended up with a few inches of water right thru the old girl, good thing the door seals were knackered as it just drain straight back out again. :D

At least with the TDI you wer`nt scared to plough into stuff like that, but I must admit, I`d think twice about doing the same thing with my TD5.

Thats the only thing wrong with living in the middle of a desert as we are now, I don`t get to play in stuff like that any more. :(

even if your door seals were buggered it I notice from this thread that it is traditiion for defender/county/series drivers to go through water crossings with vents open........hmmmm? Must be a logical reason for this phenomenon.

Vents definately closed, to bloody cold to leave em open, but the windows were open, maybe not such a good idea.

The biggest problem is when the water rolls into the grill for the vent on top of the front wing, you instantly get a fogged up windscreen as the water hits the heater matrix, this time round the heater motor almost had a hernea, I had to turn it off for about 1/2 hr until it dried out.

Great lot of pics, I love river crossings, haven't done a lot lately though.

The worst was water just over the bonnet of the Rangie

This was my first real crossing i had a week off so a mate and i headed up the high country to see some huts this was on our way to jamison hut it had been raining for 5 days straight ..going accross was fine the air intake was on the downstream coming back a bit of a worry thank god for the bow wave ....:o i,ve now fitted a snorkle:twisted:
