    Those little oil leaks!

    Hi.
THose little oil leaks are a bit of a worry! that bottom plate on the transfer case on the fender has had a bit of a weep for a while, checked it to day only half full. Have to get up a bit earlier and check things a bit more before i take off. What!! a Life with a landy.

    Cheers Sumo

Actually, if your defender is about 12 y old, like my disco, the weep may be the TC intermediate shaft seal. Like Ace, and others I suppose, the front o-rings on the shaft leak , down the TC and end up around the bottom near the drain plug. Also like Ace, it's a case of remove the TC and fit 3 odd o-rings. ( Couple of hours for the TC and 5 min for the o-rings)
That is - Life with a Landy -

What langy said is right, mine looked like it was leaking from the plate on the bottom but was actually leaking from the shaft higher up. It leaks because over time the o-ring goes hard and develops a flat surface that no longer seals, and it leaks. I took me a couple of hours to get it out, an hour to change a heap of seals and then a few hours to get it back in (that was the hard part). It leaks again anyway cause i damaged the seal getting the case back in. Matt
