Yeah well in careers i learnt that to get a lisence to become an airforce pilot you need top grades in maths science and alot of other stuff

keep studying and watch your spelling, and you could be up there one day.

When iseen what you needed to qualify i was thinking of working in amine and then getting a good landrover

Yup ! I know where Portland is, it ain't no fun riding a Vintage Motorcycle through there late at night, on the way to Bathurst at Easter, the fumes from the cement works don't do the eyes a lot of good .


Here's some answers to the Landrover Questions, some of the others may also learn something as well.

The Landrover Factory at Solihull was a (WW2)"Shadow" Lancaster heavy bomber factory, after the war (World War 2) when the Rover company wanted to resume civilian production the total allocation of Steel for the company was 5.000 Tons Adv. for Production and Tool making, there was no limit on the amount of Aluminium that could be purchased, so as a "stop Gap" vehicle a 4x4 utility vehicle for farmers use was designed and built, the minimum of steel was used, 4 flat sheets,edge welded, and the rest made from Aliminium, including the Firewall (Bulkhead) the mechanicals came from the Pre-War car lines, including the "Free-Wheel" device, the first "80inch" vehicles were constant 4x4 this was dropped for selectable 4x4, the first prototype was Centre Steer, but ALL Production vehicles were handed, RHD/LHD, the display vehicle at the 1948 Amsterdam motor show was built on a Willy's Jeep Chassis (80 inch) the front bumper of the first 500 was built as part of the Chassis the colour of the first vehicles was light green "RAF Cockpit Green No3"

The "Land-Rover" was originally only a "Stop-Gap" vehicle until the Steel restrictions were lifted, it became so successfull it was selling at a rate of 10-1 of the other Rover products in 1951.

My mate Dylan James' parents bought it when it shut down its a wreck now and half of the roof is missing

Last time that I went past the cement works was on the way to Bathurst 87 but I had travelled down from Qld for that borrowed a bike from a friend BMW R75/5, but while I lived in NSW, I never missed a Bathurst from 1969-1982, Riots and all gave up riding with a group when the shooting started had a family then, and it wasn't worth the hassle, lets just say that I spent a lot of years at Bathurst Easter Motorcycle Races under the influence of alcohol (Even saw the races a couple of times) AND many happy hours at the O'connel Pub, (older locals will remember that) that group of gents used to drink it dry every year
