    I think there is and at present light commericial vehicles are exempt. But I think the Land Cruiser 78 and the Defender are the only 2 vehicles in that market without airbags this probably means their days without SRS are numbered.

    I reckon the new Defender, if it gets to Australia, will be a full trim spec (like the xTreme) and probably priced at about the same as the base model D3. Lets face LRA seems to think only city people want new Land Rovers to drive the kids to school

    Remember that is probablly not the completely finished production models for all areas and is just a display prototype. I would not be suprised to see it with air bags whan it hits the US and Aussie markets.

    I hope we're talking suspension airbags........

    Might be convinced to be interested if they can;
    get peak torque below 2Krpm
    have a model that seats and packs like big red
    makes the same or better economy as big red
    service it without charging the wife to change the sparkplugs
    proove its as good off road as big red.

    (big red IS a 03D110 Extreme)

    No we're not talking suspension airbags. Whilst I don't want to debate the pro's and con's of airbags and whether a Defender needs any of this it is an unfortuante fact of life that the various motoring standards are now almost demanding they be fitted.

    It would be nice if they had one of those 2 stage turbos like the BMW's and other diesel cars are now getting so that there is no noticable lag below 2Krpm

    Does anybody know the power of the current TD5 motor in the 2006 Defender?

    I went to Land Rover Australia's website to look it up, but there's no information!

    http://www.landrover.com.au/au/en/Ve...erformance.htm

    What's up with that?

    Anyway, 122 hp translates to 90 kw for this new Ford Transit 2.4 litre motor, which doesn't sound like much....

    And that bulge in the bonnet - is that meant to accomodate a bigger motor in the future? I hope so... 90 kw isn't a lot for a 7 seater and towing a trailer.
