    Renault Scenic

Unfortunately the MINI is just not doing the trick for us as a second car. So, we're going to sell it The plan is to buy something fairly cheap and look at getting the MINI traveller/clubman (stretch MINI) when they come out early 2008.

We were thinking about getting a renault Scenic to fill the gap. They are a bit of a orphan, but because of that they are fairly cheap. Less than 15k for a 3/4 yo one with pretty low K.

Has anyone got any experience with these?

No actual experience, but looked at them as a car for my son & his family. Very impressed by the numerous different ways of configuring it, lots of stowage spots (so many you are likely to forget where you put things). Less impressed by reviews citing poor quality and reliability issues. Can't remember what these were though - ended up crossing it off the list.

That's not so good to hear. My mate had a Clio and it was a corking car. In three years it only had one minor warranty claim against it. I was hoping these would be similar.

Let me put it this way..

Your Land Rover was built where ?

Your Lotus was built where ?

Your Mini was built where ?

And Renaults are built where ? FRANCE, that's bloody where. Get over it.

    Capt.

I had one of these from new (2002) and I would rave about it.
They are an excellent car for a family, very versatile and believe it or not they can fly along.
I found the quality and reliability excellent.
The price as you said, now is excellent. I found them very reliable, incredible fuel consumption, and very reasonably priced when it came to dealer servicing and parts etc.
If it had 7 seats, I would still have it.

I take all that on board

It's better than buying from Japan though :O

In addition to this, I have to continue my campaign to stay on the lunatic fringe of car ownership at all costs. People will think I have sold my sole if we buy a Honda Jazz. :0

The other compelling round is I like playing the field so to speak. I've never owned more than 1 car from any brand. I'd like to add Renault to the list. :O

In order of ownership (current to beginning) the brands I have experienced are... ... .land rover...MINI...Toyota..lotus...Mazda... Ford ....nissan... mitsubishi. There are still a few brands to get through.

Why not get an early TD4 auto - better car for about the same money. The early problems are gone and it is still a Landrover.

In all my years in the motor trade, I learnt one good thing you can say about Fiats. They are a marginally better car than a Renault.

If a make/model of vehicle is going cheap through the trade auctions there is a good reason. Ring a few dealers and say you want to trade one in and see what sort of reception you get. This is the acid test of worth.
