Yep, I agree, if I were the buyer i'd be pi**ed off but how can you be responsible for it failing after 8 weeks of use? It's tough and your right to feel for the guy but as already said, it's the buyer's problem.
If he is a decent bloke he will see that you are on the level and accept your response but I don't think you need to hand back any $.

Mate as a buyer, I'd be peeved, but you've sold it in good faith. Working when it laft and working when it arrived what more can you do. If after receiving it he noticed it looked old or something wasn't right about it well he should have done something then. How often have you bought something and seen it cheaper somewhere else? Don't you wish you could get your money back and go buy the cheaper one. I'm not saying it is the case. You have to feel sorry for him but not much more you can do.
I bought a brand new Car DVD player from Ebay, to do a trip to the cape and installed it a couple of weeks before we left. It worked fine for about 1000k's into the trip. I had put it in and out a few times to add more cables etc and scratched the casing a fair bit and even though it was new and I paid $350 I figured they wouldn't honour the warranty because of how it looked like it had been treated. Just have to put it down to rotten luck.

Well l disagree l expect nothing to go wrong with anything l buy and anything that goes wrong regardless of how long l have had or used it or failed to care for it is the fault of the supplier and they should replace it free of charge of fix it for me.

Yeah, you've got no way of knowing how he's treated the fridge and 8 weeks is too long a time for him to come back on a second hand item.
I was in Dick Simth's a few weeks back when a lady came in with a 'faulty' digital camera that she had bought there the day before. When they opened it at the counter, water came out! They asked her when she first tried to use it and she said 'at Pink Lake'. Her jeans were soaked to the knees! She wanted it replaced under warranty as she reckoned it was broken already!
How old was the fridge? For $900 I am thinking it was not really old. I have not seen too many things go wrong with them.
I am wondering what would happen if you reversed the polarity on the fridge, would that stuff it? I guess what i am getting at is that if it is working when you sell it then that all you can do cause you never know what happens to it after that.
tis second hand,8weeks of ownership...he should have bought new if he wanted a peace of mind....No I say your well in the clear and even posting the question proves your not half a bad bloke so don't let him use that to his advantage..Sorry mate deal is a deal....and thats the end of that..besides most retailers are more heartless anyway's;)
If it ran when it turned up and it doesnt run now, his problem..
Chances are hes cooked it by reversing the polarity or dropping it.
if hed complained about it the day it turned up different story,
Or poorly wired, shagged battery.... etc... Insufficient battery cable diameter...

Faulty thermostat is common on Waeco... Compressor covered under 5 yr warranty by Waeco.

Some years ago my brother bought a used car privately and on the way home the timing belt broke and all the valves got bent. Tuff luck!
