This thread is useless without pics.

I thought an emergency glass breaker was just a hammer.

They are, Matt. I have one under the front of the driver's seat in my RR. It is like a hammer but with pointy faces not flat. You see them in buses.See http://www.lifehammer.com/Ron

I've seen those at kmart as well. I was going to buy one but I figured that after rolling over and over down a hill that there wouldn't be much glass left to break

Whats being discussed is a very specific hammer...

It has a cone point head to smash windows, a hand guard to prevent you from slashing your knuckes and on the back of the head it has a safety blade that is inteded to be used as a belt cutter...

As seen in all busses somewhere near the drivers position.

i thought those life hammers were banned.....too many car thieves were using them to make their jobs easier......

but...while on the topic.......a piece of porcelain from a spark plugs works just as good.....
    if not better....!!

try it next time you see a dumped car and compare the difference......
you only need a tiny piece...about the size of your fingernail on your pinky.....

yes...i have broken quite a few windows with the porcelain.....both jaguar and land rover........
no.....they werent on cars.....it was all legal....they were ex-warranty items bound for the tip........

Imagine the list of stuff that would be banned if that was true...

Ive used the small phillps screwdriver from the heap of gear i carry in my field notebook case to the same effect, hold it in a cleched fist and swing sideways at window...

yeah I just happen to carry around an old dead spark plug to break up and chuck at car windows for all those occasions when an absent minded 4x4 hating mother has locked her children in the "yuppie, blind spot free, wouldnt hurt a flea if it drove into one at 80kph" car because one of the brats has lent on the "too many sicko freaks here" panic button and activated the deadlocks.

Naturally the keys are in the ignition, the engine is running to keep the car cool for the rug rat who is now sitting in the driver seat playing with the steering wheel and trying to work out the interlock on the autobox selector.
