    Guys,

This is what I got from RTA:

You have quoted Section 7.3.6, Orientation, that states:-
    "Towards the front"

If someone is to be defected/fined etc., for the mounting of lights it will be by the NSW Police.
If you are pulled up you would need to convince the Police officer that lights that are mounted on the roof are mounted towards the front of the vehicle.
I guess if the lights are mounted in front of a roof-rack, in pods or in any other way that will prevent them from POTENTIALLY being used in any other orientation than "Towards the front" ADR13/00 will hold. As usual, there is nothing 100% definitive about RTA's reply but he's got a point about the orientation.
That is how Jeep and Tomb Raider LR could get away with it - the lights face front and that's it. Roo-shooting Hi-lux diriving mob has the lights on roof bars and so, according to the statement, can be swivelled around and face to the rear - a big no-no and a defect notice...

Finally a Landy without electrical problems, I wonder if you can get a Lucas Headlamp from LRA?
