Very good point - in fact the amount of driving you do has a far bigger influence on your contribution to environmental degradation than what you drive. (Consider - if you drive, for example, a hybrid doing 4l/100km but do the same amount of driving, you use the more fuel and produce more greenhouse emissions than if you cut you driving to 25% and drove a V8 Rangerover. And most people probably can do this by such things as avoiding unnecessary trips, car pooling, using public transport, walking for short trips etc. And a four wheel drive running on biodiesel has less greenhouse contribution than an electric car - especially in NSW where most electricity is coal generated.
I would not be too concerned about Greenpeace - they have lost a lot of the credibility they had originally because of a long history of deliberate lying and falsification.
