Some one who is more knowledgeable than I on the CDL issue for 2002/2003/2004 D2s needs to put on an explanatry post is case it is going to be an issue.

My understanding is 99-01 has no levers for CDL but is fitted to transfer case and the CDL can be activated by buying an appropriate kit.

02-04 D2s do not have the CDL at all and cannot be retrofitted unless the transfer case is changed.

2004 on has the full kit and the CDL is fitted and is operable.

Might not be an issue now but as you become more comfortable with your car you may wish a CDL was fitted.

As I said someone more knowledgable that I may want to comment and provide specific details of which cars have or do not have what kit. If it was me, I would be buying a D2 that has a cdl or can have it activated.

Having been looking into this myself as I am considering an 03/04 D2, they do have the CDL, whereas I dont think the 02 model does, prior to that I do not know. Preference obviously for offroad is to have the CDL or at least being able to have it fitted,

    cool so i wasnt wrong

ok there is a chance its an 01/02 so it may have the lock fitted but not kitted... i am going for a drive in it soon so will be able to test out a few more things... im hoping its got all the nice extras... but i kind of doubt it with my luck!

im not planning to go offroading in it... i mainly want it for hauling stuff.. and carrying people about in... but never say never.....

    Thanks

It's an 02MY & it won't have the lock fitted inside the transfer case .

Sorry - MY = Model Year.

An 02 model year can actually be built in 01.
An easy way to tell is that the VIN has a 2 before the A:
    SALLTGM832A......

    As a general rule:
99 & 00 MY had the diff lock but no linkage.
    01 & 02 had no diff lock
    03 & 04 had the diff lock & linkage.

My D2 with build date 06/2001 had the CDL in the transfer case. From what I can gather in late 2001 build date that is, it's very hit and miss if there is anything in the transfer case. However there is a D2 build date 12/2001 on the D2A site that had a CDL in the transfer case. I think that all cars build date 2002 had no CDL in the transfer case. Hope this helps.

The transfer case serial number in the car 5teve is looking at is:
    61D962839G

    I've compared that to a 99MY Disco which has a 41D..... number.

Going by that, I would assume 61D doesn't have the CDL.
