ok ok ok ... picture as requested! its nothing exciting however... infact i think it about a standard as it is possible to get :) still a landrover tho!
been driving it everywhere at the weekend... and given it a proper clean too... also tested all the things i was unsure about... one thing that had me worried was the hi / lo gears... lever didnt seem to want to move no matter what i did... i then decided i didnt have much to lose and gave it right good slap with my hand and it moved... i guess its never ever been used in low ratio!
just out of interest as this is the first auto i have ever owned too (manual would of been my first choice but i cant be too fussy for the price) is it right that the engine needs pushing quite hard before the car takes off properly? i can hold the accelerator at about 1500 to 2000 rpm and it accelerates no problem but slowish (i know its a heavy motor!) drop the accelerator a bit more to 3000 rpm and it takes off! im sure its normal as i cant imagine the torque convertor (i seem to remember them being called) being faulty at 88000k's
one last thing... what do you use to keep your black plastics black? the plastics are a bit faded and stained by red dust.. not badly but you can still see the odd streaks... in the UK i used to use a product called autoglym bumper care and it used to remove a very fine layer of plastic to turn it back to black... any equivalent product over here? i used some generic stuff from supercheap autos and it helped but not quite as much as i wanted it too!
Thanks in advance again guys!
Steve

Scouse is correct, also another way is the build date, not the release date but BUILD date (ie) Built 2000, released 2001.
(ie) 07/99 to 06/01 has the CDL in the tranfer case no actuater, there have been some cases of the early 01 models not having anything as well and some of the late 01 models having the CDL in the transfer case so as said above hit and miss with this year model, these you have to check by feel under the car.
07/01 to 06/03 nothing at all:(
07/03 to end of model 04 this is the D2a Update and has complete CDL and actuater:D
The 2002 built vehicles are a definite no on the CDL, with ones not fitted a replacement transfer case is the only option.
Baz.
Hi Steve, car looks good. I havent driven an auto D2 before only a manual, but it will take a few second for the turbo to spool up, at around 1500revs so that sounds normal to me. You shouldnt need to flog the engine to get it to move, just get the revs up enough. MattQuote:

i dont have to flog it to get it moving... its just if i want it to accelerate at a 'reasonable' pace i have to have it so the engine is holding say 2 -2.5k rpm.... if i want it to really go then booting the accelerator and having it hold at say 3-4k rpm makes it really go... it just seems like there is a far more 'positive' pickup at above 3k rpm....
im probably not making much sense.. but i know what i mean... and im sure theres nothing wrong it just me having driven manuals all my life!
it looks better now i have cleaned it properly :)
Thanks
Steve
Sounds normal to me, i need 1500-2000revs in my manual D1 before it gets moving.
As for the plastic bumper pieces and keeping them shiny, i find Armorall does the trick. Big W or somewhere like Auto 1 or something will sell it. Matt
yeah the auction house liberally sprayed armourall all over the bumpers and it left a nasty oily film on there... im assuming that you are meant to wipe it off and rub it in? sorry for the really dumb questions... but all this sunshine and new product is all very new for me! remember all i had to think about in the uk was how to stop rust ;)
Thanks
Steve
Mate, you dont learn anything if you dont ask questions.Quote:

hehe very true... and i normally abuse that to its limit!Quote:

another question then.... the self levelling suspension... does it do this automatically without me having to do anything? i have the keyfob that allws me to drop the back end... and raise it again... and i have the 'offroad' button inside that sets the rear height. but i dont see anything to activate or deactivate the SLS?
Thanks
Steve
