The SLS is computer controlled by the ABS computer. They normally are pretty trouble free, although the airbags do have a finite life span, somewhere in the region of 5 to 7 years.

Down south would probably translate as 'slapper'
Anyway, enjoy the beast; it'll scare your pants off until you realise what it can do off road! Did mine...

From what i understood the SLS will self level when you start the car, so if you load the back or drop the back end down when you start the car it brings it back to normal height. I might be wrong though. Matt

    hehe

i'm enjoying it already... i'll enjoy it more if i can persuade the g/f to let me have the ECU chipped and a new intercooler! i like the idea of more grunt without sucking too much juice.... plus the grunt will come in handy should we finally resolve the should we shouldnt we get a boat debate!

    Thanks

just out of interest as this is the first auto i have ever owned too (manual would of been my first choice but i cant be too fussy for the price) is it right that the engine needs pushing quite hard before the car takes off properly? i can hold the accelerator at about 1500 to 2000 rpm and it accelerates no problem but slowish (i know its a heavy motor!) drop the accelerator a bit more to 3000 rpm and it takes off! im sure its normal as i cant imagine the torque convertor (i seem to remember them being called) being faulty at 88000k's

one last thing... what do you use to keep your black plastics black? the plastics are a bit faded and stained by red dust.. not badly but you can still see the odd streaks... in the UK i used to use a product called autoglym bumper care and it used to remove a very fine layer of plastic to turn it back to black... any equivalent product over here? i used some generic stuff from supercheap autos and it helped but not quite as much as i wanted it too!
Your D2 looks damn fine! Congratulations.

Deisel + Auto is the best combo in my opinion, though I could be biased, and I think it's quite normal to have to give the beast plenty of right foot to get it moving. When I first picked up mine I thought the gearbox was stuffed - engine reving, in drive and we're not moving yet?! Your driving style soon changes to accommodate it.

Regarding the plastic I used "Back to Black" when I wanted mine to look extra clean. The effect was good but it didn't last for very long - dirt roads tend not to help in that department.

Bingo! thats exactly what i meant..... good to know anyway!

i think it looks fine too... and a few friends have asked if its new... that is until they see the bumper! hehe

where did you get the back to black from? i know it from the UK but couldnt see it here in WA.... i may even try to get my dad to post me some autoglym... im not sure if its classed as flammible tho

one other question.... what kind of economy am i to expect from the td5? and then what economy will i expect if i get it chipped... i have read the chip threads but people seem to say 'it doesnt really impact economy... '

oh and has anyone used the Magnet trick to improve economy?

    Thanks

Edit... wow it was that long ago that i saw it i must of been young and gullable! i guess its not a real thing after all... silly me...
