    Strange interior light question....

    Hi Guys... me again...

Last night i went to get something out of the disco twice... unlocked it, opened the door... no interior light...

tried all the doors... still no interior light... i thought.. mmm thats strange...

checked the owners manual (sad i know!) and sure enough it should come on as the doors are opened.. when the engine is turned off and when the car is unlocked....

checked this morning and sure enough... unlocked the doors... nothing... opened the doors ..... nothing.... put the key in and turned ignition on... and off again... light came on.... then opened the door... light came on again.... locked the car... light went off..... unlocked the car... light came on again.... waited until it faded and then opened the door again and it came on....

have you any idea what is going on? why didnt it come on last night? the car hadnt been used at that point for about 26 hours... but that shouldnt make a difference!

    Thanks again

    Steve

    Dirt in the door switch?
Also, from memory, there's a switch on the light above the windscreen and I think it has to be in the centre position for the automatic lighting to work - did you fiddle with that?

    Strange interior light

The disco has a time out feature on the internal light just in case you accidently leave it on. To reset this you have to turn the car engine on then off and it resets it.

couldnt see the switches so i assumed they were on the doorlocks... and i ended up fiddling with the light switch so i could see what i was looking for... thanks for the suggestion tho!

ahhhh that may be it as i was cleaning it on sunday ... and probably left the door open for over the 8 minutes.... does it not reset even when the car is locked etc etc? sounds strange if it doesnt...

my old rover used to fade out after 5 minutes if the door was open... then fade up when the door was closed... just in case you were getting in the car...

at least it gives me something to experiment with now and see if this is the case... and heres me thinking i was going mad!

    Thanks

FYI - the switches are black 'nipples' on the pillars, not on the doors (at least on a D1). My disco wouldn't light up when I opened the, rarely used, rear passenger door and that turned out to be dirt in the switch. Freed up with some WD40.

Couldnt see any Nipples at all on the pillars and i had a good look.... they cant be there as im normally pretty hot when it comes to spotting nipples

haha... i bet the neighbours wondered what was going on tho...as i was using the light on my mobile phone to have a good look around for a switch!

    Thanks

10/10 and a chocolate bar for you.... i find it strange that it locks the interior light off for good until the ignition is switched on... im sure they have their reasons tho!

i tested it last night... and now know i havent gone mad...

    Thanks guys
