Sorry I can't help. Mine has been monstered with big time.
Hi Guys... im sure this has been answered but i wanted to check something...
being a newb to the whole landrover thing and the auto thing i just want to check mine is doing what it should.
i understand that the torque convertor should lock up at some point so there is a direct correlation between speeed and revs, however i havent noticed at any point this happen.
admittedly i think the fastest i have gone is around 100k's as i havent driven it too much (work gets in the way of fun) and i wasnt looking out for the lockup at the time..
what speed does it lock up, and also is there any way of getting it to lock up at a lower speed?
the reason i ask is that it seems 'uneconomical' to be maintaining the revs at a higher speed than they need to be to keep the disco going up a long shallow incline when i know the engine could pull it up...
anyways... hope you understand what im waffling on about...
Thanks
Steve
Sorry I can't help. Mine has been monstered with big time.
It should lock up at around 80kph.
Scott
ok so if it locks at 80kph.... what should i feel? a 1:1 relation in revs to speed? so if i loud pedal at approx 80kph then i shouldnt hear the engine revving higher unless the speed increases?
is there anyway of tampering with when this kicks in? or if i had it chipped (thinking of tombraiders chip) does that effect it in anyway?
Thanks in advance for answering all my dumb questions!
Steve
You probably won't feel anything. Just keep an eye on the tacho and you will see the needle drop as if it has selected a higher gear. Too much loud pedal will unlock the convertor and give you a kickdown into 3rd gear.
Under light throttle, you should feel it lock up - sort of like selecting a higher gear.Originally Posted by 5teve
If you accelerate hard in lock up, it will kick down to 3rd gear, maybe even 2nd depending on road speed.
Can't help with the mods though.

Scouse - I just noticed your post count versus mine. I must work too hard...![]()
Ahhh, that's where you're going wrong.Originally Posted by BigJon

Maybe you have been a site member for longer than me.
thanks guys... guess im going to have to do some speedy testing...
im pretty sure that even at 100k's when i have put my foot down the revs have gone up but the car hasnt accelerated at the same speed...
i guess time to go for a blast tomorrow... well a run at over 80k's...
what is likely to be wrong if it doesnt lock? solenoid? or controller?
Thanks
Steve
