turn it off, it doesn't do anything for them running all the time, just wears the compressor out. Remember it has a little crankshaft, rod/s and piston/s in there, going up and down all the time. ;)
Car A/C is recommended to run occaisonally, just for crankshaft seal lubrication, but this doesn't apply to the little Danfoss compressor in the Waeco as it's a sealed (Hermetic) compressor. and FWIW I've seen large industrial open drive refrigeration compressors turned off for 6 months at a time, then fired up without problems, but I still run the car A/C once a week.
An absorbtion type refrigerator (eg. 3-way, 12V, 240V and gas) can have the active constituents (generally bromine, ammonia and water) settle out if left sitting and unused, but a tip upside down and a vigorous shake usually fix them. (there actually is a special procedure, but it looks like a tip upside down and a shake :D)
For what it's worth, Engel recommend running their fridges all the time.
I have a 40th Anniversary one and that's what the instructions say.
the engel may have a moving part or two but none of the usual stuff....Quote:

I heard too that it is good to run your Engel all the time but I'm just too tight so every few weeks I'll turn it onto low cool for a day or two - sort of having a bet both ways.
I was too tight to buy the protective cover for the Engel as well, btw, and even though I stored it on my trip as safely as possible it still rubbed and marked the paint. Once when driving it around empty if tipped over and dented itself (they a very unstable empty, I know that now) slightly. So now it's six months old and looks 6 years old. :(

yes, the Engel uses a swing type compressor, but a Waeco uses a Danfoss and it's a standard reciprocating type. ;)Quote:
