    waeco leave running or store

    Hi all,

I had my waeco for 6 months now and had it running the whole time. For my beers in the garage. The better half pointed out that maybe im wasting its life by running it. Any thought's

exactly, especially since it won't get opened and closed all that much stuck out there in the garage....it'll never wear out doing that.
I ahve a 50 litre one, and after a particularly rough trip it developed a rattling noise. I had a fit until I noticed the condenser fan had come loose and was hitting the grille. Other than that, a brilliant and reliable fridge.

there is an old wives tale about keeping the fridge running, but after owning an engel for over 20 years and only using it on trips, i can't see any benefit.
of course things might be quite different for some of the lesser brands.
probaly the best thing you can do with your waeco is put it on ebay and buy an engel. (in my view).
while the waecos look pretty and claim to use less current, you will probably find they also don't handle rough terrain as well as the engel. things vibrate and fatigue, and eventually break. this was demonstrated to us by one group with only waecos rolling in to alice springs with 4 of the things not working, all the same problem. fractured refrigeration fittings.
    hope this helps

i didn't see the cars but we were all running between 45 and 50 in our tyres on the hard dirt roads. not a problem!
i'd guess they were probably driving jacked up jap crap, with some stupid club name across the front window i.e. EARTHMOVERS 4WD CLUB, probably fat, smokers, drinking beer while off road from dawn until bed and probably sporting a clippered hair cut and a goatee. this unfortunately seems to be the stereo-typical 4wder. note the weekly prize getter on 4wdtv and try to tell me i'm wrong!
