'day all, looking at buying a D2 td5 '03,70ks from a dealer. But I have found (before the car had a chance to be detailed)2 oils leaks-1 from on top of the transfer box,1 from RHS of the engine.Dealer says the their workshop is satisfied that the leaks are of no "threat" and as the car would have a 3 month warranty would be covered.Any ideas/clues from anyone? His price is
    $39.9k.Ta,regards.

They may be no threat, but they are leaking. I would be inclined to have them fix properly (ie, not a degrease) those leaks before commiting.
    Cheers

I agree with slunnie, get them fixed and fixed proper, they might not be a threat but they will be a niggling problem.

The one on the right hand side of the engine, is it high up above the join between the head and block, or below where the block and head meet? If its above its an easy fix, just a tappet cover gasket, not a hard job. But if its the head gasket this might indicate other issues that may need seeing to, the head may need machining or anything, i would get that checked, and make sure they check the head properly and dont just do a routine head gasket change if it is the head gasket.

The leak in the transfer case will most likely be the o-ring seal on the end of one of the shafts higher up the case. If its not that it might just be the gasket where the linkage for the gear selector bolts on. If its the later it can be changed from inside the vehicle without removing the transfer case, if its the o-ring or anything else it will more than likely need to come out to be replaced, and then you need to make sure they put it back together properly and dont damage the input shaft seal which will leak about 3 weeks after the work was done, i found this one out the hard way.

Sounds like a top vehicle, and these oil leaks neednt be a problem if its under warranty, just make sure it gets dont properly. Matt

    Bloomin' dealers !!
Can't trust them, can you .

Insist on the oil leaks being fixed before you take delivery of the Disco. At least this way you won't have the car off the road for a few days while they sort them out during your ownership.

If you have them fixed now, as scouse said, it actually isnt part of the warranty period. The warranty wont start until you sign the papers. They just want to do it under warranty as the sooner you buy the car the sooner the warranty runs out. Matt
