Well he's not "throwing it in" but yes $1k is about right for a 3 year warranty....I assume it is with All States Warranty or similar? As a guide, I had a quote recently for $1500 for 3 year cover.

I would recomend to anyone taking out this extended warranty and for as long as you can. I took one out for 2 years and it paid for close on $4k worth of repairs on my D2 from broken radiator, clutch master slave cylinder, injector loom, window motor and a couple of other bits and pieces.....you don't have to have too mnay things go wrong in a D2 for it to cost upwards of $1k so money definitely well spent I would say......and piece of mind.

    My 10c, Mick
'99 Manual TD5 D2.......heap of money spent on it and it has ended

Read the fine print of the 3 yr warranty.
I can't see it being a factory extended warranty so it will probably be something like AWG.
If it's not factory, you'll have to get the car serviced (usually by a dealer) right on the specified Km/time or this can void the warranty.
Most aftermarket warranties don't cover certain items - like oil leaks. Some only cover major component failures so check the warranty conditions thoroughly.

Is the car still under new car warranty ?
If in doubt, PM me the VIN (just the last 6 numbers) & I'll check for you.

I would have thought ANY oil leaks would prevent the vehicle getting a roadworthy certificate (if you are in QLD).

AFAIK, they affect roadworthiness here in NSW only if they drip.

Some warranties don't cover seals/gaskets - some do but some don't.
It's all in the fine print.

Judging by the harshness of many inspectors here in QLD they must assume all oil leaks drip... eventually.

Dont most of those warranties only cover you up to a certain $ value, if its not a factory extended warranty. Matt

Yes, and it's not very much. Also don't cover anything caused by overheating, such as head gaskets.

I bought the ASWN one when my factory warranty ran out. At the time if you bought it off LR then they would double the coverage value, otherwise it wouldn't have been worth it. When my fuel pump went they would only cover $1000 of the $1300 it cost to replace (inc labour). Still better than paying $1300 but without the double cover they would have only paid $500. So far it has just about paid for itself.

that is correct.....if it drips on the ground while being inspected for a pink slip it will fail....

it could be saturated with all different oils......but as long as nothing drips off during the few minutes it takes
for the inspection......it will pass......in nsw....

The warranty insurance is also affected by the km of the vehicle as it goes up they usually require service interval to be every 5000km regardless of manufacturer recommended service interval.

The insurer usually requires you to post them copy of service receipts to continue to validate the insurance coverage

The insurer specifys the dollar value of the coverage and parts covered by the warranty once you use up the dollar value regardless of time period left on warranty you have no coverage left.

Carefullt read the policy requirements and coverage
