    Arrow Hire 4WD campers

Another similar thread prompts this question I have been meaning to ask the group for some time.

The missus and I are going to try and do Kakadu mid next year. Problem is she is a teacher and only has the school hols off ( 2 weeks ).

We still want the camping /4WD experience ( coludn't bear a group tour ) but it too far to drive up fom Melbourne in that time.

So the plan is to fly to Darwin and hire one of those 4WD campers.

From what I've seen, there are basically three options :
    1. Modified LC Troop Carrier with pop top and sleeping and kitchen etc in the back.
    2. HiLux with a fold out roof tent.
    3. Standard 100 series Landcruiser with camping kit supplied ( dome tent. cooker etc. )

Has anyone tried this, and how cramped are those Troopy Camper things, coz that is the way I am leaning right now ?

( Oh - I'd love it if there were Defender campers available- that would be PERFECT - but don't appear so. )

my dad has hired the britz troopie twice and was happy, like all hire companies they have restrictions on where you can drive, i'm guessing kakadu would be fine.

Don't know about Darwin, but I've also seen advertised Defender with 2 rooftop tents and some places have trayback hiluxes with pop-top bodywork.

Many of the hire places in NT won't honour insurance claims on particular remote roads unless you are in particular type/class of vehicle. In some cases they'll only let a hired Landcruiser, not a Hilux. It's worth reading the fine print.

    Cheers
    Simon.
