    Decided at the last minute to tag along, so after about an hour of stop-start stuff I approached said pub when Dave started coughing and the temp gauge headed north, which it's never done before...

    Limped into the car park opposite the pub and shut him down to cool off while I had a fag and a think.
    The pub car park had a winched & snorkled Disco but nothing else LR, so I guess the party had made their way in on foot or had been dropped off. Not much chance of help then!

    I turned him over and popped the bonnet. One of the heater hoses (two to the left of plenum, about 3/4 dia) had split and the last of my coolant was spraying merrily away. I walked to a servo and parted with $42 for some epoxy, fabric sticky tape and 10 litres of coolant.

    Filled the split with glue, taped the bejesus out of the hose, added about 8 of the 10 litres and set off home. So here I am. Bugger. But at least I made it (around 40 km) and there's no permanent damage ( I hope).

    Made me think about spares if a hose lets go waaayy away from civilization though...
