    Well I'm back

What a two weeks it has been..SWMBO has had the whole house floors done on 12mm solid jarrah floorboards because I said I would'nt have that laminated clip together crap in a pink fit..my bad..cheap **** was about$6000 the jarrah boards cost the same as a new family car .
The crap bit is a 4 day job blew out to 12 days , where all the furniture was stored in 2 carpeted rooms and everything else including my pc was in my home theatre , including the side by side fridge and chest freezer.
after watching how it was done when I was home I think I might change vocations, the boards are laid in a random bond with a commercial liquid nails and galvinised concrete nails (4 days) The sanding process looks like commensense with a rough cut leading to finer and finer untile the floor almost looks a natural polish (4 days) polyurethane coating is literally poured on the raw wood floors after it is made dust free and even out with a roller, 12 hours later same again and then a hardener coat last of all, architrave round the gaps and thankyou very much sir.
Negatives, the guys who laid the floor didn't do inside the pantry and a 40mm gap behind our free standing oven (pantry wasnt in the quote) So I did the panrty after work one night before the sanders got there and the 40mm was easy I just cut of the 35mm from a board and stuck it in, perfect. The 4 day job, not the first time they have done it so why not tell the truth and say 12 days so I could have gone camping for a fortnight instead The Iranian courier rocked up with 2 pallets of uneven length boards and refused to put it under the verandah at the front of the house, I told him to phuckoff ( allah akbah, jihad dirkar dirkar) as I'm not accepting the delivery unless its on the verandah, radio to office, grumpy pleb asked if I could help so I did,(very christian of me yes?) over an hour to off load by hand, he said usually the flloor guys are there to help, wife phoned and the floor boy said he had forgot to turn up, I said to tell him its $200 off the bill for my labour as I had just come home from a 10hr day laying bricks and the last thing I felt like was more physical work. he said $200 was too much so I said $500 and he agreed to $200

Advice to you guys, never pay more than 50% upfront on the day the job commences, If you get stuffed around during the job don't be afraid of deducting reasonable expense in compensation..if they don't like it at the final payment stiff faeces, see'em in court I ended up reducing the bill by $1500 with a list of reasons and no argument was offered.

So life is back to normal except the yells of "take your bloody shoes off"

I don't know much about jarrah flooring but I did some maths at school, and I believe you still have a 5mm gap!
Perhaps you could invite the Iranian chap back to fix it

Anyway I love wooden floors and bet it looks 'fully sic', well done!

she'll be right, after being used to the gaps in the rovers bodywork and door seals, he'll take one look at it and grab the micrometers and feeler gauges to measure up the 5mm

Dawg, shouldn't you have left a 10mm gap? and not 5mm?

I've seen a brick wall that's been pushed over by a jarrah floor that had no room for expansion!

Although, I suppose the small amount behind the stove is nothing to worry about.

I've bought some lovely blackbutt (130mm x 19mm) to lay in the bedrooms and hallway. But it turns out they've a) sent me the wrong glue; and b) sent me top furniture grade timber !.

It looks really nice and will need very little sanding if the surfaces all line up, but there's no grooves on the bottom!. So that means I've got to get out the router bench and start a-routin'.
