Not according to the LRA website. They list 2 in Perth (Barbagallo and Southern), 3 in the country, Albany, Kalgoorlie, and Karratha.

Broome is the one place in West Aus where you can drive round and see a lot of local Defenders. I think they like the fact that there is a lot of aluminium as they all do heaps of beach driving and fishing. That's my theory anyway. But whatever the reason there will be a mechanic very well versed in Tdis in Broome.

i have not read the whole post, my questions is why do you need a land rover specialist to work on an old landy, 90% of the problems any good mechanic should be able to fix its just the supply of the parts

if you have a good relatonship with your local landy guys i'm sure they would offer help to your daughter and or the mechanic over the phone if needed. i get all my parts and work done buy MR Automotive, these guys are great as they provided me a spare parts box for my simpson trip at no charge (just pay for what i used on my return) i used a clutch master kit and they were happy to give advice ocer the phone re: a cooling system issue.

i do agree a disco would be better on the comfort side of thing but go the derfender

Always used to be Shinju Motors. I did a warranty training course a year ago and they were represented there/then.

    And therein lies the problem.

Many remote area "mechanics" are not interested in even opening the bonnet on a Land Rover. They think it is too hard if it doesn't have a Toyota badge on the front.

Maybe I should move up there and be a LR Specialist . Nice weather, nice scenery and a hell of a lot closer to the beach!

There is good local support for LR in Broome and a couple of good mechanics. I think LR pulled the pin on Shinju. There is (or was in 9/04) a LR trained mechanic in Kununurra.

The biggest drama (and cost) is getting the bits quickly.

No.3 son lives in Broome (96 Defender) and he orders his bits, including service items, through Melbourne. Postage in 4 days to Broome.

Electrical stuff (alternators, etc) have to come from Perth. Overnight, but the freight is pretty steep.

But it's the same for any make - Tojo and Nissan are well represented by number, and so the depth of parts availability is better.

    Flamin' heck!

My daughter, who is now working in Derby hospital, just called and asked what a 2000 model V8 Disco would be worth.

Someone at the hospital is leaving soon and wants to off-load, er, sell, their Disco.

I don't think the Disco is the right car for her.

The trouble is that I let my daughter borrow the P38A and she said she could easily learn to live with it.

It's a step up from a Deefer, though, isn't it? Or were you secretly hoping she'd get a County for you?

All I'll say is, I wish my dad loaned me a Range Rover
Actually if he owned one to start with, that would have been nice...

You could be a Nicer dad and let her keep the Rangey!!!

Sandtoyz, you obviously haven't been keeping up with Ron's Rangie woes. He's on the verge of christening it Beelzebub, if he hasn't thought of worse names by now. I believe he was hoping his daughter had avoided the family curse, but fate cannot be avoided.
