That list is out of date. It shows dealers that aren't anymore, e.g. Modern Motors, Dungog.

A couple of years ago at a RROC meeting, Steve Morton (then MD LRA) told us that many dealers were happy to get out of the dealership as they weren't making money. That was one of the reasons they reduced the network.

It is an interesting business approach.....

In a booming market, in a country with the most geographically spread population, you reduce your points of presence to increase sales?????

What was JRA's market share in the late 1980s? What has been the growth in the 4WD market over the past 10 years? What is LRA's market share today?

This is a strategy to extinction!

You left out the bit about trying to flog 4WD's to cashed up city drivers who don't know why there are 2 gear levers and won't take them off road ever thus infuriating the pedestrian council and adding more fuel to their arguments about banning these monsters from our urban landscape.

fella's, there's been multiple threads on lot's of boards about this over the last twelve months. (and I can't find one.... )

Anyway, PAG (Fords Premier Automotive Group, which includes Volvo and Jag) canned most nearly ALL the dealers Australia wide as they didn't suit their image They are after the Lexus market, particularly with the introduction of the DIII and Rangie Sport.
The same thing happened to the volvo dealers......
(have you noticed that Defenders seem to have 'disapeared' ??)

Some excellent dealers like Teasdales were unceremoniously dumped.

    Absolutely pathetic corporate buhit.
The ididots in PAG that devised and carried this out need

Yep that about sums it all up.

I still have my doubts that the 07 Defender will make it to Australia for all those reasons.

Well, remember that Alfred Sloan when Chairman of General Mootors many years ago, stated that you can build a Chevrolet for $300 and sell it for $450, but you can build a Cadillac for $500 and sell it for $1500. A Lexus is only a Toyota with a few bells and whistles (selling tools), lots of marketing hype, and a grossly inflated selling price. Most of the "luxury" cars on the market use a lot of bits from their cheaper ranges. Jaguars, for example are a Ford Mondeo under the skin. The "luxury" is in the bells and whistles and a pretty face, not in under-the-skin bits. All cars are just sheet metal, plastic, and cardboard with a power train attached. Lots of plastic and cardboard these days. Alfred Sloan's thinking holds true today. This is why all makers now want a prescence in the "luxury" or "prestige" market. Make as much profit from one of these as from three or four family cars.

the 'handback' happened in the last two months.
Everything had to be sent back to PAG/LRA, tools, spares, all reference material, manuals, fiches, etc.

    Friggin disgusting. PAG
