Haven't heard of NRMA Classic insurance. My P38A is insured with AAMI for about $550 also. That's less than 1/3rd what the 4WD Assoc was offering through TCIS and CGUQuote:

im new to the country and learning all their tricks takes a while... anyway... i have the discoII a daewoo lanos and the house and contents insurance.. threw them all with budget.. seemed a fair price.. excess of $200 etc etc..
went through the underwriters questions.. started going up and up in price.. mainly cause my fiance hadnt changed her licence over from a UK one..
anyway sorted everything out.. started the insurance with a deffered payment so rach could sort her licence.. then got the paperwork through... showing a $400 excess as we havent had a full Aussie licence for 2 years.. as i had told them several times that we were fresh in etc etc i decided to give them a call and sort it out...
long and sort of it was that they checked the voice recordings and apparently they said there was an additional excess of $200 if you hadnt had a full licence for 2 years (which we both had licenses in UK for over 10 years) well i tried to argue it.. and they wouldnt budge.. completely stupid.. so i said i would pull ALL the insurance we had with them. they didnt beleive me...
i called GIO and got a great deal, a bit cheaper and better cover. (they were keen to take the business from budget so came in cheaper than the quotes i had had... ) phoned budget up and cancelled wanting a full refund.. then they started panicking! too late i said.. money .. refund.. now.. you have had your chance!
out of interest a friend called budget too.. got the same answer as us $200 excess total... as long as we had held a licence for 2 years or more.. looks like staff training is an issue there!
GIO dont seem to care as long as you have a driving history...
moral of the story.. make sure you confirm everything over the phone.. several times.. so when they check it there is no disputing it.
as its relavent here.. gio quotes me comprehensive insurance with full no claims discount for a 31yr old and 29 yr old on a 2002 discoII $548 which i thought was damn cheap... need to read the small print tho... not sure if off road cover is included... be surprised if its not.
anyways... enough waffle.. i agree.. b****y insurance companies!
Steve
I got mine with GIO. They claim it is covered off road. I got a $100 excess increase due to modified suspension but otherwise there were no arguments.
Try AMP they are one of the few that are in all states and territories (most aren't in the NT ??) and have been very good to deal with I have found.
I've got the Defender insurered with RAC (V) - agreed value, plus all the accessories on top of that. I asked if they'd give me a discount if I fitted an alarm, but they won't. They don't want me to alarm it!!!Quote:

You can get a remote central locking kit with alarm pretty cheaply at some of the car audio retailers.
