That's not surprising - my Dad used to drive me to school in a Mitsubishi Sigma. One day we rear-ended a Moke and even though we we're almost stopped when it hit, it was like the front of the Sigma just exploded in a shower of plastic & glass. Huge bang with lots of debris, but the Moke (which had a solid pipe rear bar) didn't have any noticeable damage. It's a classic case of plastic & glass vs steel. Lots of noise and debris but only damage to one party.

Would have to agree. I was hit buy a bus 10 years ago. My Nissan 280ZX had the passenger side crushed under the bus while my side had no damage. Even the frond shock absorber ruptured. Don't remeber in accident but I do remember the feeling of seeing the bus infront of me and in the rear view mirror (It was an articulated bus). Just sat back in the seat. I remember being told the police and ambulance were on their way but they never showed. Only attende was the bus accident investigation officer. He drove me home buy wich time I was bouncing of the walls.
My wife called my father after she couldn't slow me down enough to talk to her let alone make me sit. They took me into the hospital where I was examined for chest injuries and sent home. 2 days later I was back in with concussion. Couldn't stand light for 2 weeks and was car sick for 3 weeks by any type of movement.

The driver of the Camry was an Asian who didn't speak very good English. I knew it wasn't mandatory to call the cops, so I didn't.

From a NSW Govt brochure:

You must call police if:
• a person is injured
• a car needs to be towed away
• a driver fails to stop or fails to exchange details or
• a driver is believed to be under the influence of alcohol or other drugs.

If police do not attend you should report the accident. Call the Police
Assistance Line (PAL) within 24 hours on 131 444.

There was no apparent injury. Her car was driveable - she drove it away to a place of safety.

Note that this document states "you should report the accident". To me, that means it is not mandatory to report it.

I knew if the cops attended, I'd get a neg driving charge.

I had a bloke with his young daughter in a nice shiny D2 stick it up the inside of me when I was driving a heavy rigid truck doing a left turn. Indicator on, swing out, swing in and crunch. Didn't feel a thing but moved the disco about 1m sideways and crushed every panel on the right side of the vehicle, even tore the front fender.

The kid was shaken but he learnt the hard way what the 'Do not overtake turning vehicle.' signs mean.

I hate it when gutless bastards do that, if you stuff up you stick around and face the music, as simple as that. It also ****es me off that the police dont really care, the bloke left the scene of an accident, he should atleast get a visit from the cops and a fine for that, otherwise its sends the message that its ok. Glad to hear the disco is ok though. Matt

I ran up the rear end of a (then) current model Magna several years ago. When we checked it out, there was only a slight scuff mark on the bumper. No other evidence of damage.
So imagine my surprise when his crash repairer sent me a bill for $4,500! :eek:
Rang and argued the point, but there was apparently damage in behind that wasn't visible with our quick roadside inspection.

Granted that yours is probably a little tougher than the rear end of a Magna, but you can't always go on external appearances.

Have used the Rangie to push a car out of the way once, had to take the young bloke to hospital around 10 years ago (St George, so parking is a premium) anyway found a parking spot front against a tree rear in line with a drive way so I figured I would have room to reverse out. When I got back to the Rangie there was a car parked behind me, and across the driveway, some old beat up Jap thing, so no choice reverse low range and push it out of the way (early model Kaymar? bar on the back).

Coming home from work one evening in the Defender some young lady decides that she needed to exit the round about we were on, from the inside lane and drove into the side of me, damaged the two sill panels and a bit of red paint on the bullbar. She had all n/s panels damaged tore open the rear door with the bar and then removed lights and rear bumper from the back of her car.
She said didn't see me :o I said come on its a 7 foot high white house brick :twisted:.
She was driving home from picking it up at the panel beaters, reported it to the police as me at fault (I also reported), sorted that out easy enough but had to take photos etc of all signage around the roundabout to prove I could be in the lane I was in, to get NRMA to drop me being "at fault".

Defender still carries the scars.

I thought it had to be reported if the value of the damage was over $500 and/or if one or more of the vehicles is not driveable. Matt
