    survey on 4wd clubs

    guys and girls,
i need your help. there's been many threads on this forum relating to the joining of a 4wd club and quite often why not to.
i know there's a few of you in sydney that are members of the LROC and there's some in other states that are in 4wd clubs.
    what i would like is;-
1 - are you a member of a club and which one?
2 - would you prefer to form your own club instead of joining an existing club and why?
3 - why would you not join a club?
4 - what would you want from a club?
5 - if you joined a club, would you prefer it to be all landrover, mixed or don't give a rat's?

if you don't want your views to be posted on here in case you offend someone, i don't mind if you PM me. i only want opinions and numbers. no personal info or online names will be published anywhere.
    thanks for your help.

    Happy to oblige

1 - are you a member of a club and which one? GCLRO
2 - would you prefer to form your own club instead of joining an existing club and why? For me joining an existing club, was inexperienced at the time, so benefit of others who were. Was a LR club so straight away an affiliation
3 - why would you not join a club? Cant think of one
4 - what would you want from a club? Again, experienced people, passion for same marque, meet like minded people, meeting new people in general.
5 - if you joined a club, would you prefer it to be all landrover, mixed or don't give a rat's? Personally I prefer the idea of an all LR club, just like being on an LR site, its just different and ya get that concept or ya dont

Joining a club, in this case GCLRO is one of the best things I have done, great people, good mates and common interests with people from all walks of life is what makes it so great

    Regards

    Stevo

Given I'm not a member of anything vehicular, (apart from AULRO),
    I'll reply:

1 - are you a member of a club and which one?

    only AULRO

2 - would you prefer to form your own club instead of joining an existing club and why?

NO, that sounds like lots of really hard work; I admire our people here who maintain this online facility, despite its costs and other occasional angsts, but I do love the comms and touring stories, (thanks NM).. and the online mates I've met.

3 - why would you not join a club?

Clubs by necessity are like minded individuals with a common interest, therefore one needs to be like minded, be it 4wd, cricket, bowling or the KKK. To answer your q: Teetootallers going to church every Sunday morning (or Sat eve) doesn't enthuse... I belong to the church of Tuesday.

4 - what would you want from a club?

    See 3 above

5 - if you joined a club, would you prefer it to be all landrover, mixed or don't give a rat's?

This depends on how like minded one has to be.... 4wds in themselves are inanimate, its the people that make them work, but I can personally do without smartarrrsee boofheads (as opposed to nice people) in old (Jap) big lift thingys...

I get your drift Barney, just work on how to better improve the questionnaire...

thinking of setting up your own?

1 - are you a member of a club and which one?
No I was but after going on a "class 5" trip (was class 2 at best) I got uninvited after taking the disco up a fire trail, scratching it and bending the steering damper.

Apparently someone driving a vehicle with the Prestige of a Discovery should treat it nicer and it didnt help that while I was swinging the spanner on one side of it SWMBO was on spanners on the other and all the other blokes were standing around quaffing tea in bemusement at a woman working on the car, SWMBO uninvited us after that.

2 - would you prefer to form your own club instead of joining an existing club and why?
Nope, too much effort and I get posted every 3-4 years, Im RAAF

3 - why would you not join a club?
See 1. and 2. and SFAIC AULRO.com Is a club so I dont need to be in a local club, Ive done more in less time with this place than i have any club Ive ever been a memeber of, with the bonus of if I dont like someone, or value their opinion, I dont have to read it.

4 - what would you want from a club?
Make it run like this place, keep it essentially free, make it Australia wide

5 - if you joined a club, would you prefer it to be all landrover, mixed or don't give a rat's?
So long as the ethos of the landrover owner was followed I dont care what you drive (less its an auto, then I'll bag ya)

1 - are you a member of a club and which one?
    Yes, LROC

2 - would you prefer to form your own club instead of joining an existing club and why?
    NO, been there done that

3 - why would you not join a club?
Too anal when on trips, radio and convoy proceedures are a bit over the top IMO and don't cater for camper trailers, also most DON'T cater for families even though they say they do, unless it's a day trip or minimum weekend trip, their alot of big families that just can't fit everything in the car, so they leave some family members behind or just don't bother going.

4 - what would you want from a club?
Training, like minded people and so on, and would like Clubs to cater for Camper trailers, most clubs are still in the dark ages about campers and either don't care or think that campers won't go were the cars goes, also training in towing campers offroad.

5 - if you joined a club, would you prefer it to be all landrover, mixed or don't give a rat's?
    Don't give a bugger.

In reguards to towing campers offroad, many places that clubs reckon you can't take a camper because the terrain is just too rough or steep, i have been with my camper, most places the camper/car combination will handle but there are places where room is an issue and this i understand.
    EDIT;
In all cases (TUFF TIPS EXCLUDED) most trips are for the driving and the relaxing when you finally reach the destination, so the last thing most participents want is to spend the trip winching and struggling up steep slopes and through stuff and reach camp buggered and too tired to do anything.

Also you will probably find that the differance of weight between a fully loaded car and family, and car and camper is not that great, because the weight is distributed between the car and camper and the weight differance will only be about 500kg which is the trailer weight.

1 - are you a member of a club and which one?
    GCLRO

2 - would you prefer to form your own club instead of joining an existing club and why?
I originally joined an existing club but it turned out to be too far away and did not do the sort of driving I liked. I would not like to start one myself due to the effort involved however, I was involved in getting the GCLRO off the ground with Outlaw doing ALL the hard work in actually forming the club etc.

3 - why would you not join a club?
If the club was too into bashing LR's or it's members were not condusive to my relaxed way of thinking i.e, go out and have fun with the family safely.......and then have a few beers round the camp fire

4 - what would you want from a club?
A simple structure/format which allows varied trips to be run easily and regularly and includes other social events outside of 4x4 to take advantage of the varied mix of personalities and friendliness of members.

5 - if you joined a club, would you prefer it to be all landrover, mixed or don't give a rat's?
Would prefer prodominantly LR however as long as another driver in a different marque has the same ethos and general approach to 4x4 and social interaction as the club, then the more the merrier I say.

I started 4x4 driving a few years ago with next to no idea of how to drive, how my newly bought car worked or how to recover a perfect stranger stuck in a bog. After a couple of years membership with a club I am now very confident (without being stupid) behind the wheel, have learned a rediculous amount of useful, essential, safety information from other members more experienced than I na dcould now safely extract the said perfect stranger from a bog if called upon to do so

Bottom line Barney, unless you are the worlds best off roader or like to go solo (dangerous a lot of the time), or can think of a good reason to not become a member, it's a no brainer. My suggestion is go along to a few club nights at some clubs near you and check them out.......you will get a pretty good feel straight away of what they are about and if it is what you are looking for.

One plus point I would say about starting your own club, is it allows you to set the tone from the off and assuming you continue to opperate a certain way, you will find that like minded people and drivers get involved with the club. Our club started just over a year ago with 7 of us and today we have a membership of around 38, all of whom are great people and are a pleasure to not only drive with but sit and have a beer with around the camp fire. Had this club not existing that would be 37 personalities that I perhaps would have never met and as some of them I would consider good friends now, it would be a shame if I didn't know them. As mentioned before though, what really makes a club good are it's members.

Good luck and drop in and say hi if you are on the Gold Coast.

P.S. Sorry to go on a bit

    1. Member? GCLRO & RRCQ
    2. Existing club or start up? Existing - have started up other clubs - way too much hard work, if there's one in the area you're duplicating, although like Mick said - you can set the tone and culture. If I were joining another I'd check it out thoroughly first.
3 - why would you not join a club? If they were too anal, too much politics, too much carry on - that's why I say check any club before you join!! Some are more interested in passing motions and holding meetings than driving, having get togethers and fostering a "club" atmosphere. GCLRO definately doesn't suffer from the normal "club" problems.
4 - what would you want from a club? Comradeship, good driving, friendly, open inviting people and culture, family friendly and good Craic! GCLRO has there in buckets.
5 - if you joined a club, would you prefer it to be all landrover, mixed or don't give a rat's? All LR for sure. That's why I havent joined mixed clubs. As long as they're not your jacked up "****ing contestant" Pootrol, Hilux yobbos, it wouldnt matter, but I prefer the LR and the sad types that drive them!!
