Quite possible - AFAIK some early models that were specced without heaters never got the holes - especially if they were trying to use up their stocks of IIA outer guards!!!Quote:

Going by the firewall and the windscreen hinges I can say that it is a late 2a, and it would have had a galv wire grille, full width, and if it is a 2.6 litre 6 the grille would have been made up with round horizontal bars, the 4's had the checkered grille, that was the easiest way for landrover staff to identify them at a distance, the late 2a was only around for about 14 months and the 6 was not common, as the were dearer and thirstier, the main problem was that they would burn exhaust valves if they were not adjusted correctly, they would have also have had 3" wide front brake shoes, as all 6cyl vehicles did, right through until the front disc braked 110:) they would possibly had the Syncro gearbox, they have a fairly straight gearlever, if it has a cranked one then it is non-syncro on 1&2 and syncro on 3&4 it would have a metal dash with flick switches, and the central horn button, with the blinker switch on the steering column it would also have a single line boosted brake system, hope that helps you identify it :)

The dash has been altered, the istruments are mounted on an aluminium panel in front of the driver instead of centrally, although I did find the original mounting panel.

It has had a body off resto at some stage, the fella giving it away said the guards were Series III, I am just taking his word for it.
As far as brakes, etc, I will learn as I go, or junk the entire lot and build a hybrid :twisted: .
Having said that, the vehicle was originally used by the Centre Health Service (or something like that) for Nurses to visit remote area stations and communities. I have just found out (yesterday) that my Dads cousin used to work here and may well have driven that very vehicle. Maybe I should research the history before I make any wholesale modifications.:cool:

I will double check, but I think they are only standard Rover rims.

Sounds like you are better informed than me - I was aware that the heater was optional, but I did not think that any were supplied here without it, and I would have guessed that even without the heater they would have had the hole. You can check definitely whether they are S2a or S3 guards by looking at the inner guard - the panel from the floor on the S2a is flat, but the S3 is bent forward and joins the guard further forward to make room for the dual master cylinder (which did not become standard until much later).Quote:

the heater holes were cut into the guard on an as required basis...
at least thats my theory haveing seen SII, SIIA and SIII with and without the holes.
Adr's required vehicles built from 1/1/72 on to have a front windscreen demister. Heat is required to meet the performance standard. Qld. Transport roadside spot safety inspections always involve a quick look at heater hoses. If they are missing or looped around out of circuit usually because of a leaking heater radiator core, then the vehicle is unroadworthy, defect notice, possibly fine and points.Quote:
