The man reason I remember this is because I had the series 3 when I first moved to Canberra and it was my everyday commuting car - my first winter came as a shock as it was particularly cold in the mornings driving to work - most mornings that year were around -5 with a couple at -11 and I swore that I needed a new vehicle - or at least one with a heater cause the blanket over the knees and the gloves were not up to the job. I used to admire those series 3s with the funny little grill in the mudguard and wondered what it would be like to drive one in the luxury of a heated cabin.

It is amazing how much warmer Canberra has become in winter and also summer in the last 17 years.

The fresh air heater was not an option for the S2/2a (just checked parts book), although I am sure it has been fitted to some. The guard side with the hole is listed as a separate part, although I'll bet some had the hole cut in the guard by the dealer or even Rover Australia or whatever they were called then.

It was advertised on the radio last Friday as a give away. Neil heard the ad and told me. I rang up about it straight away and now it is in my driveway.

For any LR restorers or repairers who might be inteested, Howard Beattie, Carina Car Wrecking, Brisbane, 07-3843-0611, has a pair of Series III front guards lying in the grass. Faded & dirty, but almoast undamaged. Howard no longer is a wrecker, does mechanical repairs only, and has leased the major part of the property to Carindale Motor Wreckers. He moved a lot of older stuff up the back near his workshop when he divided the property for rental. Everything is for sale. There are parts and near complete vehicles from 30's to 70's. He also has a shed full of new and used parts he is trickling out through e-bay, but, as I said, everything is for sale to the first reasonable bidder.

G'day All, just to add to all the confusion re "late model 2A", it is either incorrect or has had a bulkhead replacement, ?? reason (now because I cannot post pix) if you look in the remlr site (contained in aulro) thread called "Inspirations" the first page shows a pic of the lhs b/head and the difference is there to be seen for those of us who know the difference (early models with 2 piece hinge with replaceable ball etc) had a captive plate that slides, the later model S2A has speed clips like the pic shows) the b/head fitted to my 109 wksp truck is a late model b/head the major difference is the door hinges they had the same as the S3, and it is nigh on impossible to fit the early model door hinges anyway still a good bargain what ever it is too far away for many of us though.

After a bit of a clean last night (with a scourer pad!) I can confirm that there was a heater hole, but it has been filled. The outline of the hole is just still visible. Series III guards could be accurate.

The gearlever has a slight rearward crank right at the base, but it is not much of a bend at all.

No split rims there, only Rover ones and 4 white 8 spoke ones which have "not for road use" stamped on them.
