you can cut and paste the panel of a cruiser into the landie but IMHO it aint pretty and will be more hassle than its worth come rain dust and river crossings.

but IF you must... it is doable by means of rivets/ mount plates and bog...

Some simple heat/sound shield in the floor area will substantially reduce floor area temps.

You talking about a fender, don't dishonour it with yota parts,

    Suggestions

    1. run some ducting from the passenger side vent to the footwell, similar too the setup on a series III
    2. Wear thongs
    3. install a sunroof (hot air rises) it would work to a certain extent
    4. Upgrade the vents and compressor on your airconditioner

same as you used for your bonnet insulation mate. I also have some thin reflective foam stuff you can double layer under the rubber that helps a little bit.

Most of the hot feet on Landrovers comes through the floor. Insulate the floor and the firewall, particularly where the exhaust is close to the other side. I used the thin, dense foam sold as hiking beds on my 2a. You can get them with a layer of reflective foil. If used inside they do not have to be oil/heat resistant like the insulation has to be under the bonnet.

The flap out foot vents on the early Patrols and Landcruisers you will notice are no longer used. (They were commonplace on cars in the twenties, and also existed into the thirties. While they do have their points, they suffer from the major problem that they take air from right where the front wheel throws up dust, and this is a very serious problem except when they can take air from the trough between the bonnet and the mudguard - hardly existed on the FJ40 and did not exist on the early Patrols, nor any Landrover.
With the Defender you have the additional problem that the place they fit (in front of the door, not on the door), unlike the other vehicles referred to, is double walled. If you really need to provide additional foot ventilation, do something along the lines Dobbo suggests.
