    24 Volt Mig Welder?

Hey Guys did any of you see the 24V Mig welder on 4x4TV on Thursday night?
It was using gasless wire and as per the arc welders connect up your two batteries and away you go.

I would love to get a welder that I can use for simple jobs and take it away on trips. I think it was being marketed by Phirana. Anyone got any expreiences with these or similar units? With Chrismas comming on the big fat man might bring me one.....(shhh just dont tell the wife).

Yep sure do and have seen them in action not to long ago, in fact i have video of it being used on one of our camping trips, they are made in the US and sold by Pirahna, they aren't cheap, around $1000.

Give me 1/2 an hour and i'll post the vid.

    Baz.

    PS the're 12volt too

you can mod a cheapy gasless mig to do it as well but its a mite primative.

basicly replace the transformer and rectifier with the 24v battery feed and then tap 12v for the feed control motor via the hand piece trigger.

you could probabley set it up to run from some switches and one of those marine dual battery switches so you retain functionality on 240v.

Yep as you seen he repaired his exhaust and being 12/24volt is a bonus 12volt for light stuff and 24 for heavier work.

thoe little hand held jobbies are the ducks nuts for offroad repair work. Ive seen a diff welded up to get a vehicle home with one... Ive welded with one at the welders world up in Townsville (they had a demo day) and once you get used to the weight of the 1kg roll of wire hanging above or below your hand (depending on which one you buy) They weld just like a normal 140amp gasless mig.

Heres a little blurb from an American Store.

Interesting to see down below the varied range of wire available.
