    Otways and surrounds

    Hi guys
Was going to the High Country this W/E now that's off due to fires ....
The people I am going with still want to go away ....alternative is the Otways/ Angahook Lorne area ?
But I don't know the area.
Anyone know any good tracks or campsites for a bit of medium 4WDing ?

    hi wayne,

Just wondering if you ended up going to the otways/angahook lorne area?

Given the H/C is closed, I am getting antsy about getting out of town, a mate and I are planning to go up to the otways/angahook area for the weekend of the 31st march.

Does anyone else have any great camping locations up that area?

(finally i have a camping date locked in )

    Hi,

There are quite a few good tracks we do Noonday sometimes (think that's how you spell it) and that can be interesting, especially after rain!

Just take note that some of the tracks lead you onto Thurston's Track and that is completely closed until March some time. We got caught out by that one last weekend.

Aire River West/East campground is good and has been mentioned on here before, mind you we went there the weekend before last also and it was packed (with the wrong types of people) so we left, think it was due to an event on in Apollo Bay.

You can try Blanket Bay for camping, that is nice, has the beach there and the sites are private, all ok unless you tend to setup a huge camp when you arrive somewhere (the sites are fenced quite small)! Fire pits are shared. Also a warning, as you drive down there is a sign at the gate saying the campsite is full, ignore that its been there months and drive down and see if you can get a spot.

Johanna is basically an open field on top of a beach cliff, beach is fantastic for surf fishing. Can't swim there though.

That's all I can think of for now, enjoy

I didn't end up goiing anywhere - too much fire risk for any sort of camping.
There was another thread running on the Otways too may be of help.

Thanks, i'll print it out and have a look on the map.

Close to the beach sounds like the go.

I imagine its hard to get spots close to the beach with few neighbours...
